Senior Health Educator
This position will report to the Senior Human Services Program Manager and will be responsible for the management of the Condom Distribution Program for Area 11A to include but not limited to; planning, data collection and reporting. Plans, develop, implement, evaluate and deliver comprehensive STD/HIV prevention education programs and develop specific interventions strategies according to the Center for Disease and Control Program (CDC) approved behavioral, biomedical and structural interventions, public health strategies and social marketing campaigns targeting priority populations in Miami-Dade County.
Provides behavior modification interventions using the compendium of evidence-based interventions (EBIs), Evidence-Informed Interventions (EIs) and best practices for HIV prevention for priority populations to promote healthy lifestyles in the areas of STD/HIV prevention. Delivers educational information to communities disproportionately impacted by HIV, inclusive of PrEP/PEP awareness and safer sex practices during outreach activities. Understanding social determinants of health linked to HIV prevention and care promotes strategies that provide knowledge and behavior modification skills which contribute to healthy lifestyles for Miami-Dade communities.
Responsible for managing the distribution of preventive barriers for Area 11A, including: ordering preventive barriers on a quarterly basis for reginal distributors, determining order quantity based on the number of preventive barriers distributed during previous 12 months, submitting order forms to the State office and coordinating delivery of preventive barriers with State office, collecting monthly preventive barriers pick-up logs and following up with agencies receiving preventive barriers and corrections of monthly logs.
Responsible for receiving, processing and approving new applications for preventive barriers distribution sites and updating the tracking database. Develops and maintains an updated database of agencies/businesses authorized to receive preventive barriers from our office and provide lists to regional distributors for accurate distribution of preventive barriers. Supports Community Mobilization initiatives and develops constructive and cooperative working relationships with local community leaders, community-based organizations and institutions, to facilitate the provision of HIV/AIDS education prevention programs to priority communities in Miami-Dade County.
Coordinates community engagement activities and leads a Community Mobilization group by partnering with community-based organizations, local businesses, AIDS service organizations and gatekeepers to develop, implement, evaluate and expand local, state and national HIV/AIDS Initiatives for priority communities. Attend community meetings and serve on advisory committees as requested by the Health Education Supervisor. Serves as lead for the Business Responds to AIDS (BRTA) initiative in Miami-Dade County.
Responsible for the recruitment of businesses in areas of high incidence of HIV/STD. Conducting both promotion and distribution activities using geo targeted epidemiological data to reach individuals at high risk of HIV infection, venues frequented by these individuals, communities at greatest risk for HIV, and general population in jurisdictions with high HIV incidence. Integrate condom program activities within other community level interventions to promote condom use and risk reduction behaviors;
identify obstacles to reaching members of vulnerable or hard to reach populations and strategies to overcome them. Entering, transcribing, recording, storing, or maintaining information in either written or electronic form. Collect data from activities and/or interventions and produce and submit program report monthly, including numbers of presentations conducted, persons educated on HIV/STDs and customer satisfaction surveys completed. Compile, prepare and submit monthly Condom Distribution Reports: condoms distributed, agencies/venues where condoms were distributed, and activities conducted in support of the condom distribution program.
Assistance in additional office-related activities and duties as assigned. Participates in any committees, events, special programs or initiatives celebrating National Days of Observance or other activities organized, sponsored or supported by the Office of HIV/AIDS, MDCHD, Florida DOH or as determined, required or needed by the program and/or the county health department administration. Perform other related duties as assigned.
