Position: Outreach Specialist 2

The University of Miami/UHealth Department of SCCC has an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time Outreach Specialist 2 to work at the UHealth campus in Miami, Fl.

CORE SUMMARY

The Outreach Specialist 2 supports in developing and implementing new and existing public education and outreach programs, serving as a liaison to the community. Moreover, the incumbent performs a wide variety of duties and demonstrates a high level of professionalism and effectiveness. The Outreach Specialist 2 utilizes project management skills to organize community outreach activities.

CORE FUNCTIONS

  • Supports in the development and implementation of public education and outreach programs.
  • Works with community-based organizations to plan promotional educational and other events targeted towards designing an increased awareness in the community.
  • Assists in the publishing activities: writing, editing, budgeting, scheduling, and distribution.
  • Interacts effectively with outside advertising agencies, printers, photographers, and other vendors.
  • Aids with the preparation and distribution of public health education and navigation manuals.
  • Identifies effective strategies for promoting enrollment in ongoing studies, conducting active and passive recruitment, in-person, and online outreach.
  • Conducts brief surveys by phone and in community settings.
  • Aids with compiling data for presentations.
  • Develops professional relationships with health providers, researchers, and community members.
  • Collaborates with other members of the team on special projects and events.
  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

    CORE QUALIFICATIONS

    Education: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field

    Certification and Licensing:

    Phlebotomy Certification

    Experience: Minimum 4 years of relevant experience

    • Ability to maintain effective interpersonal relationships.
    • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
    • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

    • Proficiency in computer software (i.e. Microsoft Office).
    DEPARTMENT ADDENDUM

    Department Specific Functions – Sylvester Community Outreach & Engagement (SOOE)

    Works collaboratively with the Sylvester Community Outreach & Engagement team and the Beyer Skin Cancer Prevention and Control Initiative at Sylvester to coordinate and implement community-based education, prevention, screening, patient navigation, and research-support activities focused on melanoma and other skin cancers. This shared role supports efforts to reduce skin cancer incidence and improve early detection through culturally responsive education, community partnerships, and patient-centered engagement

    • Plans and conducts community outreach and education activities related to cancer prevention and screening, with emphasis on skin cancer prevention and early detection.
    • Provides culturally appropriate health education on skin cancer risk factors, prevention strategies, and screening pathways.
    • Assists individuals in accessing, navigating, and scheduling skin cancer screenings and follow-up care.
    • Works closely with outreach and Beyer Initiative/Dermatology leadership to improve screening, prevention, and research participation rates, particularly in high‑risk and underserved populations.
    • Attends health fairs, screening events, educational sessions, and outreach activities to distribute materials, collect data, and support program implementation.
    • Documents interactions and maintains accurate records of outreach, patient navigation, and research-related activities.
    • Collaborates with community organizations, schools, and partner institutions to align outreach and prevention efforts with organizational goals.
