Your Specific ResponsibilitiesThis employee of the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County (FDOH), Epidemiology, Disease Control and Immunization Services (EDC-IS) is functioning in a supportive role under the direct supervision of the Senior Public Health Services MGR-SES and Assistant Community Health Nursing Director. They may also be called upon to function in a support role in a nurse/clerk team providing immunization services.
The individual in this position will perform specialized public health work in areas geographically removed from direct supervision to include conducting on-site Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program provider-specific quality assurance reviews to ensure that all providers who receive vaccines from the State comply with the VFC Program requirements. This entails the performance of immunization coverage level reviews, feedbacks and the implementation of the Standards of Pediatric Immunization practices to help to increase the immunization levels among Miami-Dade County’s area private providers to assist the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), the State of Florida Bureau of Immunization (BOI) and the FDOH EDC-IS achieve the Healthy People 2020 goal for immunization by assuring that at least 90% of our county’s two year old children successfully complete their primary series of immunizations before their second birthday.
Incumbent must be able to function independently and make decisions. Incumbent will follow HIPAA regulations set by FDOH to ensure confidentiality and privacy of the client health information. Incumbent will establish good rapport with staff and clients, provide positive customer service, be flexible, approachable and accept change readily and is cross trained among all the clinics in the EDC-IS. Incumbent is expected to adhere to established Health Department policies and procedures.
Conducts VFC provider visits to promote an increase in immunization levels and provides information and education to staff and private medical providers. Duties include routine paperwork, reports, surveys and audits. Employee must be proficient in the use of computers and able to prepare, complete and distribute reports, audits, make copies, receive incoming calls and routes to the appropriate persons. At specific times, incumbent will function under the direction of a nurse providing immunization services in a barrier free walk-in clinic.
Works under the supervision of the Senior Public Health Services MGR-SES and the Bureau of Immunization to determine which private provider under the VFC Program will be assessed. Contact the private provider and schedules appointments to assess immunization records in a specified age range cohort. Conducts quality assurance and quality improvement activities in the private sector to generate provider-specific feedback on progress toward meeting federally mandated goals.
Utilizes laptops and surveys to collect and compile data. Educates provider and office staff on compliance as well as addresses opportunities for improvement. Provides follow-up by presenting results via written reports to the Florida Department of Health in Miami-Dade County (FDOH), Bureau of Immunization and the provider assessed. Performs a review of each provider’s immunization levels utilizing the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) software, Secure Access Management Services (SAMS), Program Annual Progress Assessment (PAPA).
