Shipboard Human Resources Director

Responsibility and authority:

  • Providing leadership in the area of employee relations; internal guidance and assistance to Senior Officers, Department Heads and Shipboard Managers on human resources issues.
  • Providing an accessible, nurturing environment to handle employee relations issues, using effective conflict resolution, assist in arbitrating disputes and resolving grievances, while guiding team members towards the correct outcome.
  • In partnership with Senior Officers, taking a leadership role onboard implementing and sustaining the Carnival Values.
  • Leading Human Resources initiatives designed to engrain the Carnival Values in the organization including training, daily communication and recognition programs designed to highlight the specific behaviors that create exceptional guest service.
  • Leading investigations in any Human Resources related issue such as workplace conflict, employee work performance, harassment and minor infractions of shipboard and department rules.
  • Collaborating and consulting with other members of the onboard Disciplinary Committee in matters related to investigations, employee issues and employee actions.
  • In consultation with Department Heads and Senior Officers, facilitating all employee separation and breach-of-contract actions to ensure they are processed in adherence to CCL policies.
  • Ensuring the efficient operation of the Shipboard Human Resources Department including the effective management and courteous execution of on-board services provided through the Staff Administration Office and Crew Training Center, including the entire on-boarding and off-boarding process of team members.
  • Representing the HR Department in a professional manner, following high standards of ethical conduct and always portraying a positive and professional image that is essential to the role/position.
  • Assisting Captain in maintaining compliance with MLC 2006 regulations.
  • Managing crew accommodations onboard according to established crew accommodations plan, manning budgets and berthing guidelines and policies.
  • Facilitating employee cruise benefits.
  • Reviewing and approving employee expense reports.
  • Supporting and actively contributing to all initiatives that drive Safety, Reliability and Security measures on board.
  • Playing an active role in reviewing the Team Carnival Experience Monitor results and being involved in the strategic action-planning and goal-setting process.
  • Taking a leadership role with Senior Officers and Shipboard Management in the "Quality of Life" and overall "Employee Experience" onboard.
  • Coordinating crew activities and overseeing all activities as per CCL crew activity guidelines.
  • Being the main contact onboard for the Crew Care Team.
  • Communicating organizational change initiatives and new company policies & procedures that affect shipboard employees.
  • Conducting effective, motivational performance management of the onboard Human Resources Team.
  • Communicating effectively with shore side Human Resources.
  • Ensuring confidentiality and discretion of all employee information.
  • Participating in onboard meetings.
  • Facilitating the "Change of Department Requests" as per company procedure.
  • Facilitating onboard employee recognition initiatives.
  • Visiting and monitoring employee work areas to ensure there is a positive work environment.
  • Responsible for leadership development onboard.
  • Developing, evaluating and modifying Human Resources processes, policies and procedures.
  • Coordinating and being actively involved in special projects.

Education:

  • Human Resources Degree or equivalent
  • Global Human Resources Certification (GPHR preferred)
  • Relevant Certifications in Hospitality Human Resources
