Network Engineer - Infrastructure & Operations

This Network Engineer will support Next Era Energy's complex network infrastructure, focusing on enterprise network upgrades, substation power grid management, and operational excellence. The role requires hands-on expertise in Cisco, Arista routing/switching, and Palo Alto firewalls, along with network automation capabilities using

Ansible, while maintaining operational stability through incident response, problem management, and participation in 24/7 On-Call rotation.

Infrastructure Modernization & Upgrades

• Lead network infrastructure upgrade projects across enterprise environments
• Upgrade Cisco, Arista, and Palo Alto network devices to Gold Standard versions, including core switches, access switches, routers, and firewalls
• Manage and upgrade substation power grid Cisco rugged switches/routers supporting critical energy operations
• Leverage automation tools such as Ansibleto streamline upgrade processes, ensure consistency, and improve operational efficiency

Operational Support & Service Management

• Respond to and resolve incident tickets during business hours, ensuring timely restoration of network services
• Participate in24/7 On-Call rotation to provide after-hours support for urgent network issues
• Collaborate with cross-functional IT teams to troubleshoot and resolve complex network problems
• Investigate and document root causes for problem tickets, developing permanent solutions to prevent recurrence
• Provision network resources including VLANs, switch ports, server connectivity, routing configurations, and firewall rules via Work Order (WO) fulfillment

Project Planning & Execution

• Develop detailed project plans for network upgrades and infrastructure maintenance
• Coordinate with stakeholders to schedule maintenance windows and minimize business impact
• Document network configurations, upgrade procedures, and standard operating procedures (SOPs)
• Provide status updates and communicate project progress to leadership and technical teams
• Ensure compliance with change management processes and regulatory requirements

• 5+ years of hands-on experience with Cisco routing and switching platforms (IOS upgrades, core/access layer architecture)
• Proven experience upgrading
  
  Arista, andPalo Alto network equipment and configurations
• Proficiency with network automation tools, particularly
  
  Ansible, for configuration management and deployment automation
• Strong understanding of network protocols, VLANs, routing, switching, and firewall policy management
• Experience managing ruggedized network equipment in industrial or utility environments (preferred)
• Demonstrated ability to manage incident and problem tickets with strong troubleshooting skills
• Experience with project planning, scheduling, and execution
• Excellent communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences
• Availability to participate in On-Call rotation for 24/7 operational support

• Successful completion of network infrastructure upgrades to Gold Standard with minimal downtime
• Timely resolution of incident and problem tickets within established SLA targets
• Accurate provisioning of network resources (VLANs, ports, firewall rules) per Work Orders
• Comprehensive documentation of network configurations, procedures, and project outcomes
• Proactive participation in On-Call rotation ensuring continuous network availability
