Database Administrator (DBA)

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Database Administrator (DBA) to support the installation, administration, maintenance, performance, and availability of enterprise database environments.

This position is responsible for analyzing current and future database requirements, implementing and maintaining Database Management Systems (DBMS), monitoring database performance, and ensuring database environments remain reliable, available, and properly configured.

The Database Administrator will work closely with application developers, systems engineers, infrastructure teams, and other technical personnel to support enterprise applications and database-driven systems. The role will also evaluate database software updates and enhancements to determine their impact on existing production systems, applications, development standards, and operating procedures.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

+ Install, configure, maintain, and support enterprise Database Management Systems (DBMS).

+ Define hardware and software requirements necessary to support database environments.

+ Maintain high availability and reliability of database systems and supporting software.

+ Analyze current and planned database usage to ensure appropriate capacity, performance, and scalability.

+ Monitor database performance and resource utilization and recommend modifications or improvements as needed.

+ Perform database performance monitoring, optimization, and tuning.

+ Define database performance parameters based on application and business requirements.

+ Create, configure, and maintain database objects.

+ Troubleshoot and resolve database-related incidents, performance issues, and software problems.

+ Support database replication, standby environments, monitoring tools, and other database availability technologies.

+ Provide ongoing database maintenance to ensure adequate capacity and efficient resource utilization.

+ Assist application developers and programming teams with database-related issues.

+ Provide technical guidance regarding database architecture, design, connectivity, and integration with applications.

+ Evaluate database software upgrades, patches, enhancements, and vendor changes to determine their impact on production systems.

+ Install and support vendor-packaged applications within assigned database environments.

+ Develop and maintain database standards, procedures, and technical documentation.

+ Communicate database software changes, updates, and technical recommendations to relevant technical teams.

+ Provide training and technical assistance to application and development personnel.

+ Perform additional database administration and technical support responsibilities as required.

Required Knowledge & Skills

+ Strong knowledge of enterprise Database Management Systems (DBMS) and associated administration tools.

+ Experience administering one or more enterprise database platforms such as:

+ Oracle

+ Microsoft SQL Server

+ IBM DB2

+ IDMS

+ IBM Db2 UDB/LUW

+ Experience supporting database environments across operating systems such as:

+ Windows

+ Linux

+ AIX

+ UNIX/Solaris

+ z/OS

+ Strong understanding of database replication, standby operations, high availability, and database monitoring tools.

+ Experience defining, creating, and maintaining database objects.

+ Experience installing and supporting vendor applications within enterprise database environments.

+ Strong database troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills.

+

Experience with database performance monitoring, optimization, and tuning.

+ Ability to analyze database resource utilization and capacity requirements.

+ Knowledge of database software installation, upgrades, patching, and ongoing maintenance.

+ Ability to provide technical support and guidance to application developers and other technical teams.

+ Strong written and verbal communication skills.

+ Ability to collaborate effectively with technical teams, application teams, vendors, and business stakeholders.

Preferred Background

The ideal candidate will have experience supporting large-scale, enterprise database environments where system availability, reliability, performance, and data integrity are critical. Experience supporting multiple database technologies and working within complex IT infrastructure environments is highly desirable.
