Facilities Maintenance Supervisor - FL Keys National Marine, Key West

The Facilities Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for maintaining the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary (FKNMS) Nancy Foster Environmental Complex in Key West. The role manages repair and ensures routine upkeep is carried out efficiently and timely.

• Maintains grounds, facilities and all mechanical systems, including HVAC, plumbing and electrical, at the three-building Nancy Foster Environmental Complex.
• Serves as the technical point of contact for vendors, monitors and evaluates technical performance of contracted vendors, maintains vendor relationships and solicits new vendors as appropriate.
• Purchases necessary cleaning and maintenance supplies.
• Inspects buildings, conducts preventive and corrective maintenance, develops long‑term infrastructure repair schedules, conducts routine safety inspections and addresses potential hazards to ensure compliance with OSHA and NOAA regulations.
• Maintains and monitors FKNMS security system and cameras.
• Supervises maintenance operations and on‑site maintenance personnel as necessary.
• Ensures expenses incurred fall within the maintenance budget.
• Maintains inventory and upkeep of all tools and equipment; records inventory and parts into OP&M and Center database.
• Assists in drafting statements of work and government cost estimates for facility contracts.
• May provide supplemental support for basic IT tasks as they arise.
• Assists with general mechanical maintenance of FKNMS vessels/vehicles.
• Provides technical support for visitor center exhibits.
• Safeguards all assigned property (computer, smart phone, tools, etc.) and reports any missing immediately.
• Accepts deliveries and moves materials within the facility using a forklift or other material handling equipment.
• Performs essential duties in any emergency such as hurricanes, storms, and/or any other university emergency closing. The employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.

High school diploma or GED and three (3) years of relevant experience; OR an equivalent combination of relevant education, experience, and/or vocational/technical training.

• Experience in building construction or maintenance work.
• Supervisory experience.
• Understanding of energy management best practices and overall systems optimization.
• Experience in Building Management Systems (BMS), Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) and central HVAC systems including chillers and chill water pump systems.
• Ability to analyze mechanical problems and design solutions.
• Ability to assist in drafting requests for proposals when outside vendors need to be called in for major repairs.
• Knowledge of disaster preparation, recovery procedures and shutdown procedures for IT equipment.
• Knowledge of how different components interact, i.e., displays, exhibits, conferencing, switches and audio/visual components.
• Knowledge of HVAC and building security and the ability to manage various software programs and audio/visual equipment to monitor environmental variables and physical security is necessary.
• Ability to problem solve and repair plumbing issues.

• Begin time: 8:30 AM
• End time: 5:00 PM

• Work requires some physical effort in handling materials, boxes or equipment.
• Ability to lift heavy equipment.
