Position: Learning and Development Manager, Global Destinations (Cozumel, Mexico)

Overview

The Manager, Learning & Development role is functionally responsible to the L&D COE and oversees all training (including technical, on-boarding, compliance, safety, security, soft skills, and leadership development) for on-site staff using designated training curriculum. This role collaborates across teams, delivers training, and assesses training outcomes. He/She manages learning initiatives on-site, evaluates program effectiveness, and integrates learning and development into employee development plans.

The role includes facilitating training programs, administering e-learning environments, and supporting leadership development. He/She also manages the Onboarding Program for new hires, optimizes learning resources, and effectively manages change. Additionally, He/She supports academic development and community training efforts as directed. The Destination L&D role ensures compliance with quality standards and regulatory requirements, maintains training records and reporting, upholds health and safety standards, leads training audits, reports, and promptly addresses issues.

He/She oversees cost efficiency in L&D operations. This position will have responsibility at Puerta Maya, Mahogany Bay, and Amber Cove, but will be part of the broader Carnival Corporation Global Ports and Destinations Development (GPDD). GPDD is responsible for the development and operations of seven Carnival-owned destinations in the Caribbean:
Grand Turk, Mahogany Bay, Puerta Maya, Amber Cove, Half Moon Cay, Celebration Key and Princess Cays. These destinations welcome more than 6 million visitors annually and offer world-class amenities such as beaches, pools, bars, water activities, food and beverage, retail, and cultural exhibits.

Location and Travel

While this role supports three of our global destinations (Puerta Maya, Mahogany Bay, and Amber Cove), the position sits onsite in Cozumel. Travel to all 3 destinations is required, as well as to Miami and Carnival headquarters.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Essential duties include: facilitate prescribed learning programs (planning, coordinating, administering, and evaluating); coordinate and support training requests from other departments and visiting trainers. Administer and maintain the e-learning environment. Support and facilitate supervisory, career, and leadership development programs. Develop relevant and engaging training content. Assess training effectiveness using prescribed metrics and feedback; identify areas for improvement. Liaise with and supervise internal and external vendors and sessions to deliver training where applicable.

  • Manage the Onboarding Program for new hires according to the prescribed curriculum and COE direction. This includes facilitating modules, coordinating with HR and department heads, communication, monitoring, and diligent administration. Monitor and enable high engagement and participation throughout the program.

  • Create effective development plans in partnership with the HR Manager and department heads; support and track development plans for high-potential team members as directed. Optimize the use of learning resources for employee development. Manage change for all learning programs and initiatives. Support campus fairs, internship programs or academic development efforts as directed by COE.

  • Manage site compliance and safety training based on designated curricula. Ensure compliance with company quality standards for programs, facilities and administration. Monitor and maintain compliance of regulatory, corporate, and other required programs; including running reports, communicating, and scheduling classes. Ensure thorough record keeping and timely reporting. Lead health and safety, security and environmental (HESS) requirements. Prepare for and lead training-related audits;

    report and correct deficiencies cited. Control, monitor, and manage cost efficiency of L&D operations onsite. Report progress and follow through on training activities as directed by the COE.

  • Independently lead a range of learning initiatives, overseeing their execution and measurable impact. Use project management to plan, drive, communicate and implement L&D initiatives. Manage change of programs and initiatives effectively; communicate using appropriate tools, modes, and channels.

  • Participate in drills, seminars, and training programs as required; support employee engagement programs and welfare activities. Collaborate with the HR Manager to support employee services and on-boarding operations; support applicable train-the-trainer programs.

  • Performs other relevant duties as assigned by the HR Manager and/or COE.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Proficiency in using Learning Management Systems (LMS) and intermediate use of e-learning tools; proficiency in Office 365 for Business with SharePoint.

  • Expertise in adult learning theory and instructor-led group training.
