Job Description – Used Car DirectorWe are looking for a hands‑on, experienced Used Car Director
to improve used car performance across our automotive group. This is role for someone who works best in the stores, builds strong relationships, and can influence results.
You’ll help each store create strategies to acquire the right cars, price them correctly, and turn inventory quickly while coaching Used Car Managers and General Managers on effective market driven sales process to help store achieve sales and profit goals.
What You’ll Do Inventory & Buying- Build smart buying strategies for different brands and markets.
- Make sure each store has the right cars at the right price.
- Manage key metrics: days’ supply, turn rate, aging, recon time, and wholesale performance.
- Buy cars through auctions, trades, service lanes, online tools, and local sources.
- Coach Used Car Managers.
- Work closely with General Managers to keep each store on track.
- Visit stores, lead meetings, and make sure best practices are followed.
- Improve appraisals, trade in results, and recon speed.
- Use data and market tools to set smart pricing.
- Make sure online listings (photos, comments, pricing) are accurate and high quality.
- Adjust strategy quickly based on demand, competition, and supply.
You will help shape a large, growing used‑car operation across several states. If you like building strong teams, improving results, and adapting to fast‑changing markets, this is a great opportunity.
Requirements Must Have- 7–10+ years leading used car operations in multiple stores or high volume dealerships.
- Strong success with buying cars, cutting aging, and improving gross.
- Ability to lead and influence teams.
- Experience with auctions, digital buying, and inventory/turn strategies.
- Knowledge of dealership processes: appraisals, trade‑ins, recon, and CPO.
- Ability to travel.
- Experience with multiple brands (domestic and import).
- Experience creating group wide processes.
- Strong skills with tools like vAuto, ACV, Trade Pending, and CRM/inventory systems.
- Good data and reporting abilities.
- Better inventory turn, gross profit, and less aging within 6–12 months.
- Strong teamwork among the Director, UCMs, and GMs.
- Consistent appraisals, recon times, and online merchandising across all stores.
- Higher win rates on trade ins and service lane purchases.
