The University of Miami Department of Human Resources has an exciting opportunity for a Manager, Employee Leave and Accommodations (On‑site position). The Manager, Employee Leave and Accommodations oversees the administration of leaves of absence and workplace accommodations requested by employees and/or applicants to the University. As a working manager, this role supervises individuals employed as leave coordinators and accommodation specialists to ensure appropriate handling of leave and accommodation requests.
This role requires substantive knowledge of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (PWFA), the Family and Medical Leave Act, applicable leave provisions under the Uniformed Service Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA), and religious accommodations under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as amended. The manager connects with health‑care practitioners, other University departments, and community resources to obtain information to aid in the analysis of leave and accommodation requests.
A key responsibility is to communicate and direct appropriate measures concerning accommodation requests. The manager also assists in the development and facilitation of training, as well as in relevant policy development. This position reports directly to the Executive Director, Employee Relations.
- Primarily responsible for the accommodation process, including triaging and directly processing requests for accommodation under the ADA through resolution or closure.
- Maintains case‑management protocols to ensure accommodations are properly tracked and recorded.
- Engages the requestor in the interactive process to assess needs and identify accommodation options.
- Obtains all necessary employee medical releases and other information related to a request.
- Maintains strict confidentiality of all employee information in accordance with related regulations and the University’s policies and procedures.
- Consults with Risk Management to coordinate ergonomic assessments as needed.
- Oversees the leave management function for University faculty and staff, including administration of Family and Medical Leave, Military Leave, and other protected leave types provided by the University.
- Partners with Human Resources’ Client Services, Faculty Affairs, Talent Acquisition and Recruitment, Office of Classroom Management teams as appropriate.
- Develops and maintains a directory of accommodation options and available resources both internal and external (building/classroom accessibility, accessible parking and transportation options, web accessibility, counseling and consultation, etc.).
- Develops and maintains the department’s web page to communicate the accommodation process and resources for employees and applicants.
- Attends and participates in meetings and/or events related to leaves and accommodations.
- Serves as a liaison with other University disability services as needed.
- Conducts research and drafts related policies and procedures pertaining to accommodations and/or leave.
- Continuously assesses the efficacy of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures.
- Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

Core Qualifications EducationBachelor’s degree in a relevant field.
Experience- Minimum of five (5) years’ of relevant experience directly in the management and administration of leaves of absence under FMLA and military leave AND accommodations.
- Knowledge of the ADA and other related laws addressing persons with disabilities, such as Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, 29 U.S.C.
- Knowledge of various alternative formats and alternative technologies that enable individuals with disabilities to communicate, participate, and perform tasks.
- Ability to work cooperatively with employees, supervisors, other University departments, and external entities to review and coordinate reasonable accommodations.
