Position: Marine Operations Manager / Boat Captain

About the role

We are seeking an experienced Marine Operations Manager / Boat Captain to run daily marine operations in South Florida (Miami Beach). This role goes beyond piloting a boat: you will act as the marine superintendent on site, supervising a small fleet of work boats and float barges, leading other boat captains, and coordinating in-water construction activities alongside the onshore project team.

Core

responsibilities

Marine supervision & leadership:

  • Supervise and direct all boat captains and marine crew; serve as the single point of accountability for daily in-water operations
  • Operate and manage a small fleet of work boats (up to 30') and float barges
  • Assign daily tasks, monitor crew performance, and resolve operational issues in real time

Construction support:

  • Coordinate positioning and movement of marine work platforms and support equipment staging and recovery operations on the water
  • Coordinate water traffic control as required by permit; work alongside the field crew and onshore superintendent to keep marine and land-side work synchronized

Logistics & compliance:

  • Plan daily marine schedules: crew transport, equipment movement, material deliveries, and barge positioning across active work zones
  • Maintain daily communication with the onshore superintendent and project management team
Requirements
  • Proven experience operating work boats and/or float barges
  • Prior experience in a marine supervisory or lead captain role on a construction project
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and hold a marine crew accountable in an active construction setting
  • Strong understanding of marine safety regulations and in-water environmental compliance
  • Strong communication skills — must coordinate effectively between marine crew, onshore superintendent, and project management
