Who are we looking for?

We are looking for a Technical Director – Emergency Preparedness to join our team based in the US East Region. As a Technical Director at GHD, you will mentor and guide the team while taking the reins in environmental emergencies, collaborating closely with clients and agencies to ensure effective response and resolution. Your role will extend beyond project management to include business development and client expansion activities.

You will bring 7+ years of project management experience, a proven track record in emergency management, client relationship management, and business development, as well as expertise in environmental engineering, geology, or a related field.

Responsibilities
  • Client & Customer Management (External):
    Manage key client and customer relationships and maintain customer satisfaction and loyalty.
  • Community of Practice Management:
    Contribute to and lead on a community of practice within a defined area of expertise to develop innovative practice and thought leadership.
  • Data Collection and Analysis:
    Manage a segment of organizational data collection and analysis activities.
  • Document Preparation:
    Develop and write materials such as sensitive press releases or speeches for critical audiences.
  • Environmental Impact Assessment:
    Manage a significant aspect of environmental impact assessments, including data analysis, mitigation strategy planning, or report preparation.

    Risk Management:

    Align risk activities with environmental regulations and the organization’s sustainability initiatives.
  • Functional Strategy Formation:
    Lead the development and implementation of strategy for a significant area of responsibility, integrating with corporate strategy.
  • Health, Safety, and Environment:
    Ensure business activities comply with HSE policies and procedures, protecting the environment and minimizing risk.
  • Organizational Capability Building:
    Evaluate staff capabilities, prioritize development activities, and coach others to support talent growth.
  • Performance Management:
    Manage and report on performance within the department, set objectives, and enforce accountability.
  • Policies and Procedures Development:
    Develop policies, procedures, and guidelines for key functional areas, ensuring compliance with external requirements.
  • Project Management:
    Manage a portfolio of major projects aligned with overall project management strategy.
  • Request for Bid Solicitation/Proposal/Tender Response:
    Gather information and draft proposals for complex bid solicitations and requests for proposal.
  • Secure Permissions and Consents:
    Ensure relevant permissions and consents are secured for development sites.
  • Solutions Analysis:
    Develop innovative solutions by integrating and analyzing complex information sources.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or a related field.
  • 7+ years of experience in environmental emergency response and preparedness, environmental site assessments, and remediation.
  • 7+ years of Project Management experience.
  • Track record of revenue growth through Business Development activities.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with technical professionals, clients, and regulatory officials.
