Job OverviewAs a Community Disaster Program Manager, you will supervise the implementation of the disaster services program in an assigned geographic area, lead and supervise program staff and volunteer teams responsible for preparedness, response, and recovery, and manage government partnerships within the area. You will work with volunteers to ensure the communities you serve are ready to respond to disasters. Regional disaster employees are required to deploy to disaster relief operations outside of their region at least once a year.
Key Responsibilities- Empower Volunteers:
Manage and support an employee and volunteer team responsible for implementing volunteer-led disaster services programming throughout the assigned area. - Lead the Program:
Supervise employees and implement disaster cycle services activities within the assigned geographic area or specific functional activities. - Mission Capacity Building:
Develop and support disaster volunteers who are the primary workforce and are representative of the communities they serve. - Engage Community:
Lead and coordinate efforts to prepare and mobilize communities, and engage partners with specific functional expertise to prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters and emergencies. - Manage in a Matrix:
Build relationships and collaborate in a matrix management environment with internal partners, including employees and volunteers. - Know Your Communities:
Act as the local Red Cross disaster subject matter expert in the Miami Dade Area to maximize presence and community engagement. - Ready to Respond:
Initiate and coordinate disaster relief operations in the assigned area, or functional activities in alignment with the Disaster Cycle Services Concept of Operations.
- Education:
Bachelor’s degree required, or equivalent combination of education and related experience. - Experience:
Minimum 3 years of related experience. - Management
Experience:
1 year of lead or supervisory experience. - Travel: A current valid driver’s license and a good driving record are required.
Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
- Bilingual – Spanish.
- Analytical and decision-making skills to interpret program trends and develop recommendations.
- Collaboration with diverse groups and individuals representative of all community demographics, managing multiple priorities, facilitation, problem solving, marketing, leadership, and partnership management.
- Intermediate level proficiency with Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
- Ability to work outside of regular duty hours, including nights and weekends.
- Chapter-based positions:
Geographic Community Disaster employees are expected to work daily in their assigned geographic area. - Regional positions:
Regional leadership and functional employees are expected to work daily within their region’s geographic area.

The employee is regularly required to sit, use hands, and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, and occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment. The work environment will consist of moderate noise. The employee must have the ability to work in a small cubicle and sit at a computer terminal for an extended period of time.
