The Senior Claims Manager is a senior subject-matter expert responsible for ensuring the timely and commercial resolution of logistics and transportation claims. This role will oversee complex cargo, freight, transportation, and warehouse claims on behalf of DSVI across the Americas.
Based in Miami, Florida, this position will have a strong focus on supporting the Americas region with claims handling.
The ideal candidate brings 10+ years of progressive experience in claims, insurance, and logistics. Fluency in Spanish and Portuguese is a plus. So too is a law degree.
Key Responsibilities- Working with the business units and freight forwarders liability and cargo insurers to manage complex and high-value cargo claims, and see them through to resolution.
- Establish appropriate strategies for resolving claims disputes between DSV and its customers, its contractors, and across offices.
- Overseeing cargo claims across the full spectrum of multimodal transportation (air, ocean, road, rail, warehousing, and logistics services).
- Ensure cargo claims are investigated and resolved consistently, efficiently, and timely.
- Partner with Senior Director and legal counsel (internal and external) on litigation, arbitration, mediation, and other disputes when appropriate.
- Review and interpret bills of lading, transportation contracts, logistics agreements, insurance policies, terms and conditions, and other relevant documentation to streamline cargo claims handling.
- Serve as a senior resource to the business and DSV Insurance.
- Partner with Senior Director and insurance carriers to pursue recoveries, subrogation, and minimize company losses.
- Analyze claims trends and recommend appropriate risk mitigation strategies.
- Apply knowledge of transportation and commercial law to claims involving domestic and international logistics.
- Monitor relevant legal, regulatory, and contractual developments affecting transportation liability and claims.
- Provide guidance to the business regarding contractual risk, liability exposure, claims practices, and dispute resolution.
- Assist with developing and maintaining claims procedures, guidelines, and standard operating practices.
- Provide guidance and coaching to regional teams when necessary.
- Establish consistent claims management standards across the Americas while supporting global alignment.
- Represent the company professionally in sensitive customer and third-party matters.
- Serve as a resource for DSV Insurance in NORAM/LATAM, specifically with respect to cargo claims.
- Must perform duties in accordance with DSV’s values: deliver results, push transparency, take ownership, and work with colleagues to win together.
- 10+ years of progressive experience in claims management, transportation/logistics, insurance, commercial litigation, risk management, or a closely related field.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) or equivalent law degree is preferred.
- Strong knowledge of transportation, logistics, cargo liability, insurance, and commercial law.
