Job SummaryValmont Industries is currently seeking Material Handlers for a Second Shift (3:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m., Monday–Friday) at our Coatings Site in Miami. This individual‑contributor role involves receiving, unloading, storing incoming product loads, inspecting finished products for damage or defects, and operating forklifts, cranes, and material‑handling equipment to move materials throughout the facility.
Responsibilities include identifying materials being loaded and unloaded, creating tags, taking notes and photos, entering information into the computer system, inspecting galvanized products for quality, coordinating special handling, and strictly adhering to safety procedures and PPE use.
Essential Functions- Operate forklifts capable of moving up to 22,000 lbs. of material on flatbed trailers, and use crane and other material‑handling equipment.
- Communicate potential problems or needs to the lead or supervisor.
- Inspect incoming material for proper venting and hanging; identify coated material.
- Inspect galvanized material to ensure it meets quality standards, reject non‑compliant material, and coordinate special handling.
- Read tags, bills of lading, and shipping and receiving papers.
- Verify tags on incoming products, including piece count and packaging details.
- Move pieces of steel and other material up to 50 pounds by hand from various locations.
- Operate small hand tools (tape measures, micrometers, saws, drills, riveters, nail guns).
- Assume other duties as assigned.
The Role
- Assist with area housekeeping and clean‑up.
- Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
- Stand 90 % of a shift, work outside in extreme weather.
- Communicate and interact with coworkers positively.
- Pay attention to detail and follow work instructions.
- Maintain high safety awareness.

- High school diploma. Minimum 2 years of relevant experience.
- Proficiency with wood and small hand tools such as tape measures, saws, drills, riveters, and nail guns.
- Ability to safely operate forklifts, cranes, and other material‑handling machines.
- Ensure products meet quality standards.
- Bundle, crate, box, and wrap products for shipping.
- Load a truck.
- Lift up to 50 pounds frequently throughout a shift.
- Two (2) years of experience operating a forklift or other machines in a professional environment.
