Position Overview
Responsible for troubleshooting and repair of through-hole and SMT electronic assemblies down to component level using bench top electronic instruments. Responsible for analysis of failures that occur in manufacturing or during production processing to determine the cause of failure and prevent future occurrence. Responsible for quality assurance and documentation. Relies on schematics, drawings, specifications, and other documentation from engineering along with pre-established guidelines to perform job functions.
Works without immediate supervision.
- Performs troubleshooting, failure analysis, and rework of electronic assemblies using bench‑top test equipment, custom test beds, and automated test systems in compliance with quality assurance policies and methodologies.
- Repaints through‑hole and SMT electronic assemblies in accordance with engineering standards.
- Inspect, solder, and rework by IPC Class‑2 standards (through‑hole and SMT components) as needed.
- Uses a microscope to perform inspection and rework as needed.
- Troubleshoots failed electronic assemblies and identifies rework required for production operators.
- Supports SMT rework operators on techniques, materials, and processes.
- Communicates problems to engineering and/or production personnel as appropriate.
- Participates in continuous improvement, recommending improvements to product flow and throughput, work sequences, test processes and debug techniques. Documents as required.
- Maintains a clean, safe work environment and follows all published/posted safety standards.
- Exposes to manufacturing areas that require the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes/boots, and hearing protection.
- In‑depth understanding of electronic theory, both digital and analog.
- Proficient in test measurement and troubleshooting techniques on electronic assemblies/subassemblies in a manufacturing environment involving printed circuit boards (PCBs).
- Experience with bench‑top test equipment (DMM, oscilloscope, power supply, etc.).
- Proficient in skills needed to rework SMT PCB defects.
- Interprets and comprehends schematics, mechanical drawings, data sheets, functional specifications, and block diagrams.
- Knowledge of quality standards and production techniques.
- Demonstrates problem‑solving skills and ability to develop creative solutions.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word is preferred.
- Effective interpersonal skills.
- Effective multitasking skills and ability to take on additional responsibilities as required.
- Effective organization and prioritization skills.
- Works individually and in a team environment.
- Able to work overtime when needed.
- 2–4 years of experience in test and repair of complex electronic assemblies and systems to component level.
- Two‑year technical degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in a related field.
- Manufacturing setting.
- Requirements to sit for long periods of time based upon business needs.
- Temperature‑controlled environment.
$27.25 – $31.86 per hour, depending on experience, qualifications, and business needs.
