Setting up a large amount of material for spreading, while ensuring tension‑free spreading and maximizing utilization.
This position is part of the Ability One Program, which provides employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities. The program requires that 75% of the services provided be completed by individuals who meet the Ability One requirements (blind or have significant disabilities). Through nonprofit agencies like ours, the program provides products and services, including janitorial and manufacturing services.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities- Set up a large amount of material for spreading, ensuring tension‑free spreading and maximizing utilization.
- Set down the marker and spread out the underlay paper.
- Mark splices, marking the beginning and end of the lay.
- Record a roll ticket.
- Review the fabric for defects as the lay is spread and inspect the cut as necessary.
- Identify and record yards of defective fabric by roll number and provide the information to Quality Control.
- Less than a high school education.
- At least one year of experience in a Cutting Room or similar job.
- Basic mathematical skills and ability to record and track information in records, handle rolls of fabric material, record information on cutting tickets, and yards used.
Basic English communication skills are preferred but not required.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand and work most of the day, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and talk or hear. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Additionally, you must be able to lift and carry at least 50 pounds.
Prepared to work in a noisy manufacturing area with heavy traffic and floor vibrations.
