Position Overview
Under moderate supervision, Packagers are hand laborers who work in a warehouse environment to assemble packages. They assemble the packaging, print and add labels, record what is packed, inspect the packaging for tears, and ensure the materials inside are packed in a way that minimizes breakage during transit. Some require the use of an Autobagger where the operator inserts materials and activates a foot switch for automatic sealing.
Staging of packages to the loading dock for transit as needed.
- Pack or package by hand a variety of Mercury Marine products and materials quickly and efficiently
- Ensure production goals and lead times are met by following the schedule
- Mark and label containers, container tags or products using Lab View
- Read computer screens to locate materials and determine customer needs
- Measure, weigh, and count products and materials using scales
- Examine and inspect containers, materials, and products to ensure packing specifications are met
- Seal containers or materials manually or by heat sealer
- Break down cardboard for recycling
- Expected to work safely and follow company policies and procedures
- Other duties as assigned
- May be required to stand for long periods of time
- Active listening, coordination and attention to detail
- Experience in a manufacturing environment
- Must have normal to high manual dexterity skills
- Must be able to use hand tools, scales, and other process‑related equipment such as fixtures and Autobagger. Some hand tools require the operator to be ambidextrous
- Moderate lifting up to 50lbs, lifting assistance is provided when necessary
- Fine hand manipulation, pinching, pulling and grasping of small, medium, and large parts
- Operator must have a full range of motion in hands, arms, legs, neck, and back to perform job duties
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Manufacturing experience of at least 1 year
- Computer literate
- Must have the ability to communicate in English; excellent written and verbal communication is required.
The performance of this position normally requires exposure to a typical manufacturing area where, under certain conditions, the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) such as safety glasses with side shields, safety shoes or boots and hearing protection is required. Typical hazards may include but are not limited to ergonomic issues, burns, bruises, cuts, heavy lifting, fumes, slippery floors, machine hazards, chemicals, gases, and body injuries.
Protective measures have been installed, including machine guards, an ergonomic stretch program, documented hazards, proper hand tools, environmental, health and safety training, and PPE. Industrial lighting is provided. This work requires routine walking, standing, and bending.
