The Assistant Director of Marketing and Communications for Academic Affairs supports university-wide academic priorities through strategic internal and external communications. Develops and manages communication products that reinforce Academic Affairs initiatives, elevates the visibility of key programs and accomplishments, and ensures consistent alignment with university branding, messaging, and strategic priorities. The Assistant Director serves as a partner to central units, colleges, and external groups, facilitating timely, effective storytelling and communication that enhances engagement across the academic enterprise.
Executes and advances major communication deliverables including newsletters, presentations, talking points, reports, announcements, and social content. Contributes to strategic projects such as the Academic Affairs strategic plan, legislative budget requests, grants, and special initiatives.
- Develops recurring communication products including Academic Affairs newsletters, talking points, and regularly distributed Provost Report.
- Produces written and visual materials such as Power Points, presentation decks, infographics, program collateral, and event-related content.
- Drafts and edits university-wide messages, welcome memos, announcements, celebration statements, and executive talking points.
- Reviews and contributes to high-visibility publications including the Commencement Program.
- Coordinates communication efforts with Marketing & Communications and collaborates with college-level and central administrative units on shared campaigns and messaging.
- Partners with external entities including search firms on communication materials, job advertisements, and branded documents for Provost-level searches.
- Supports preparation for conferences, presentations, and academic engagements.
- Contributes to strategic projects tied to major Academic Affairs initiatives, including strategic plan documentation, legislative budget requests, grant-related materials, and related deliverables.
- Performs copywriting, copy editing, and quality review on written material to ensure accuracy, tone alignment, and editorial clarity.
- Provides communications support for special projects.
Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field with four (4) years of experience in social media tools, marketing, and advertising or Master’s degree in Marketing, Advertising, Communications, or related field with two (2) years of experience in social media tools, marketing, and advertising.
Desired Qualifications- Ability to plan and execute multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in higher education, communications, public affairs, or related field.
- Experience developing executive-level messaging, reports, and presentations.
- Experience with Cascade to maintain website content.
- Knowledge and experience in working with local community organizations and partners.
- Previous experience directing communications, multimedia production and program events.
- Familiarity with marketing workflows, brand standards, and publication processes.
- Experience in the production of videos is highly desirable.
- Experience working with or supporting strategic initiatives, grants, LBRs, or institutional reporting.

Advertised Salary$80,000 - $85,000

Other Information- Ability to work flexible hours as needed.
- Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends and at locations outside of the University.
- Travel to FIU Campus.
- Ability to travel locally.
