Description GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES
Performs responsible management and professional work in planning, organizing and coordinating the public relations activities of the City; performs related work as required. This position specialized in research, documentation and distribution of written and oral communications, as well as management and development of systems used to distribute information.
Distinguishing Characateristics Of The ClassThis is highly responsible management work organizing and conducting the public information and public relations functions for the City and reports to the Communications Director. Responsibilities include management of the City's website content and social media outreach programs including oversight of content development and strategy development. The work of the Communications Officer II is performed through periodic conferences and reports for the achievement of desired results.
EssentialJob Functions
- Produces professional-quality photography and videography for City events, programs, meetings, ceremonies, public safety initiatives, community outreach activities, and other municipal functions.
- Plans, shoots, edits, and delivers multimedia content for use across social media platforms, the City’s website, television broadcasts, digital signage, presentations, and marketing materials.
- Creates engaging visual storytelling content that highlights City services, community achievements, special events, economic development initiatives, and public information campaigns.
- Develops and edits promotional videos, public service announcements, interviews, testimonials, event recaps, and informational content.
- Facilitate communication between City departments and community residents enlisting the support of organizations, businesses and departments throughout the local community to support programs and services.
- Collaborate with City departments to identify communication needs and develop creative multimedia solutions.
- Assists with social media content creation by producing photographs, videos, reels, short-form videos, live streams, and digital campaigns.
- Provides live event coverage through photography, video production, and social media platforms.
- Monitors emerging multimedia trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance the City’s communication strategies.
- Maintain effective working relationships with representatives of the media, newspapers, radio television and other publications.
- Utilizing computer software and strong writing skills to generate correspondence, reports and presentation materials representing the City of North Miami or Director at meetings to include but not limited to:
City Commission; boards; homeowner associations and businesses; working closely with law enforcement to address public safety issues. - Respond to emergency situations where information coordination is vital and establish and maintain on-site liaison with media representatives.
- Monitors emerging multimedia trends, technologies, and best practices to enhance the City’s communication strategies.
- Prepare and make presentations to civic, governmental groups and other interested organizations.
- Assists with media relations activities and special communication projects as assigned.
- Responsible for organization and production of the City’s Newsletter, Web Site, Cable television channel, the Automated Citizen Information System, other City related programming and community outreach programs.
- Keeps current on local, state and national news;
- Performs related work as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Public/Business Administration, Public Relations; or related field;
OR
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Communications, Multimedia Production, Digital Media, Journalism, Marketing, Public Relations, Graphic Design, Film Production, or a closely related field; supplemented by three (3) years of professional experience in photography, videography, multimedia production, digital communications, or related work.
