Phillip and Patricia Frost Museum of Science (Frost Science) ’s Conservation Programs engage and inspire the community in collaborative efforts to conserve and restore Florida’s ecosystems. Through innovative research, targeted conservation, and educational programming, these initiatives benefit both the natural world and people across South Florida.
The Conservation Programs Coordinator at Frost Science will oversee the volunteer coordination for Museum Volunteers for the Environment, Your Shores and ReeFLorida programs at Frost Science. This will involve leading and facilitating coastal habitat restoration and monitoring, community science efforts, and community engagement initiatives. This position will lead MUVE workday and restoration events, support Your Shores students, and assist ReeFLorida conservation initiatives as needed.
The Conservation Programs Coordinator must have a strong interest in marine and coastal sciences, science communication, community engagement, and strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESCoordinate and facilitate MUVE activities, Volunteer Workdays, MUVExclusive, and Adopt a Sea Otter and Coral programs; including event production, sourcing materials and supplies, updating event registration pages, liaising with landowners and partners, and reporting event details.
Supervise ReeFLorida and MUVE Lead Volunteers, including volunteer and staff training, timesheet management, service hours, outreach and scheduling.
Lead monthly MUVE Volunteer Workdays.
Oversee maintenance, restoration activities and data management of restoration sites, ensuring activities are completed with scientific rigor and grant-funded projects are finalized.
Lead implementation of dune field lessons for the Your Shores program by facilitating student participation in MUVE workdays, including exotic species removal, marine debris removal and tracking, and native plantings.
Lead class lessons for Your Shores students, while supporting the education team in marine science curriculum development.
Facilitate Your Shores field lessons on mangrove and seagrass ecosystems and dive field days through delivering lessons on coral reef topics and serving as a mentor for students during their dive certification process.
Record, organize, inventory, and maintain all conservation supplies.
Care for native plants both at Frost Science and at restoration sites.
Support planning and implementation of the annual ReeFLorida Symposium.
Support ongoing community science efforts, including planning of the annual City Nature Challenge.
Lead outreach and lecture events throughout Miami‑Dade County, both onsite at Frost Science and offsite at conservation festivals, promoting Frost Science’s Conservation Programs.
Conduct weekly beach cleanups and water quality assessments, tracking data.
Develop and complete special projects as needed.
Assist with other conservation program tasks.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in biology, environmental science, or related field of science.
Experience with community engagement, outreach, and/or citizen science.
Experience with environmental conservation and/or science.
SCUBA certified Open Water or equivalent preferred.
