Tropical Audubon Society is a 501(c)(3) founded in 1947 as a chapter of National Audubon Society. Known today as “South Florida’s Voice of Conservation,” we are guided by our Mission to “Conserve and restore South Florida’s ecosystems, focusing on birds, other wildlife and their habitats.” We facilitate our mission via Conservation, Education and Preservation. These three pillars of our grassroots organization are supported by advocacy, outreach, events, fundraising and communications, focusing on Miami‑Dade County.

Full‑time role with a healthcare stipend, hybrid work schedule, 15 days of PTO, paid holidays, and an annual winter break (Dec 23–Jan

The Director of Development (DoD) will play a primary role in strengthening Tropical Audubon Society’s impact and viability. This position leads fundraising, membership and outreach efforts, while leveraging organization programming to compel and enhance giving. As a key partner to the Executive Director and Board, the DoD will utilize these partners in engaging and cultivating donors, prospective donors and other stakeholders.
Responsibilities- Lead and execute a comprehensive development program, including major gifts, annual giving, grants, planned giving, capital campaigns and donor events.
- Manage and grow a portfolio of individual and foundation donors; cultivate, steward, and upgrade giving levels.
- Identify, pursue and manage grant opportunities, ensuring timely submissions and reporting.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and finance team on revenue tracking and forecasting.
- Implement and manage a membership program to increase engagement and revenue.
- Serve as the primary membership contact, responding to inquiries, cultivating members into donors and maintaining accurate records and timely acknowledgements.
- Contribute to annual goal‑setting and organizational reporting.
- Represent TAS at external committees, coalitions and networking events.
- Support administrative compliance, including financial reports and charity status maintenance.
- Proven fundraising expertise with 3 to 5+ years of nonprofit experience and the ability to inspire and motivate donors.
- Familiarity with South Florida’s philanthropic community and key funders.
- Exceptional relationship‑building, networking and communication skills (fluent in English; Spanish a plus).
- Skilled in CRM/database management (Every Action preferred) and comfortable with basic bookkeeping tools (Quick Books).
- Highly organized, proactive and solutions‑driven with the ability to juggle multiple projects and stakeholders.
- Strong collaborator who works effectively with staff, board, volunteers, donors and community partners.
