Position Overview

The Director of Individual Giving will work with the Senior Director of Development and the Development Department to develop and implement key fundraising strategies for PAMM’s major gifts program, annual fundraising events, and special projects and initiatives. The Director of Major Gifts manages the Senior Manager of Individual Giving and Membership and the Individual Giving Manager, Affiliate Groups.

Essential Functions

Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:

  • In conjunction with the development team, identify prospective donors and funding sources, and develop cultivation and solicitation plans involving the groups mentioned above and volunteers, as appropriate.
  • Ensure regular communications and stewardship with donors both locally and nationally, including re‑solicitations, proper acknowledgment of gifts and pledge payments, reporting, visiting, and providing regular information on the department’s progress.
  • Prepare and maintain a master plan of funding priorities in conjunction with leadership and staff, determine fundable projects, and package them appropriately for consideration by donors.
  • Make appropriate recommendations to curatorial and education colleagues concerning their roles and involvement in identifying, cultivating, or soliciting donor prospects. Facilitate face‑to‑face interactions with appropriate donors and prospects.
  • Manage and develop the Art+Soul Planning Committee, supervise Affiliate Groups’ management, support the execution of PAMM Art of the Party and Kids Jamm, and participate in Board Advancement Committee and Nominating and Governance Committee meetings.
Specific Fundraising, Event, and Donor Group Responsibilities
  • Annual individual gifts above $10,000.
  • With the Senior Director of Development, establish goals for and execute Art + Soul, PAMM Art of the Party, Kids Jamm, and all affiliate group events.
Management Responsibilities
  • The Director of Individual Giving will manage the Senior Manager of Individual Giving and Membership and the Individual Giving Manager, Affiliate Groups.
Measurements of Success
  • Demonstrate significant and continuous progress toward fulfilling an annual goal of $1.5MM+ that will be comprised of a major gifts portfolio of gifts above $10,000.
  • Make appropriate progress in the substantive cultivation and solicitation actions toward closing gifts.
  • Manage an appropriate number of active prospects and active proposals. Numbers and amounts will be established.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s liberal arts degree, preferably in art history, museum studies, or business.
  • Three to five years of experience.
  • Proven track record in fund development, including major gifts and donor cultivation.
  • Ability to work with trustees and major donors to cultivate giving and involvement.
  • Computer proficiency (MS Outlook, Word, Excel, and Altru preferred).
  • Attention to detail, excellent writing skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • A graduate degree in art history, business, or marketing highly desirable.
  • Experience preferably in the art museum or non‑profit setting.

Physical Demands
  • Walk, bend, lift (up to 15 pounds) files, office supplies, and electronic equipment.
  • Finger dexterity to pick up paper and use computer keyboard.
  • Close visual acuity to perform activities such as preparing and analyzing data, transcribing, viewing a computer terminal, and extensive reading.
  • Ability to hear in normal tones, including telephone and face‑to‑face conversation.
