Internship Opportunity With The International Rescue Committee

The Immigrant Youth Casework Intern will support our Miami-Dade-based Immigrant Youth team in delivering essential services to immigrant children and their families. Key responsibilities include identifying and connecting clients with community resources to enhance self-sufficiency, as well as participating in community awareness and outreach initiatives. The position may require travel within the Miami-Dade region. The hours for this position are flexible;
however, will primarily be between 9AM and 5PM on weekdays, with occasional weekend activities. Please note that all internship positions are unpaid and we are currently considering candidates in South Florida only.
- The intern will gain knowledge of solution-oriented, strengths-based care coordination for immigrant families.
- The intern will develop skills in trauma-informed, client-centered care.
- The intern will develop skills in mapping community assets and resources.
- The intern will develop skills in client empowerment and advocacy.
- Assist caseworkers serving children and their families by helping them with school enrollment, public benefits applications, making referrals, and client advocacy.
- Assist with research on local community resources.
- Assist with outreach to local organizations to help establish partnerships within the community.
- Assist with managing client case notes and files.
- Communicate case statuses and coordinate service plans with the supervisor.
Excellent communication and writing skills
Organized with attention to detail
Able to work independently and under pressure
An interest in international issues
Strong desire and enthusiasm to help people
Computer literacy – preferably with PC systems
Access to internet
Valid driver's license and reliable access to an insured vehicle.
Requirements- Must pass a background check
- Must be at least 18 years old
- Minimum commitment of 15 hours per week for a minimum of 3 consecutive months.
- Submit intern hours on volunteer dashboard
This will be a hybrid or remote role.
