The University of Miami/UHealth Department of Development and Alumni Relations has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Philanthropy Officer to work in Miami, FL.
The Division of Development and Alumni Relations supports the mission through fundraising and engagement by building and nurturing strategic philanthropic relationships to support Miller School of Medicine.
General OverviewThe Philanthropy Officer will work with the Sr. Director, Development to manage fundraising activities for the Department of Neurology and Department of Neurological Surgery. The Philanthropy Officer will serve as a critical member of the Medical Development team working to secure philanthropic gifts to advance priorities supporting the Miller School of Medicine.
Essential Responsibilities- Identify prospective donors and funding sources with faculty and staff, developing cultivation and solicitation plans.
- Ensure regular communications and stewardship with donors, including re-solicitations, acknowledgement of gifts and pledge payments, reporting, visiting, and providing information on department progress.
- Assist donors, prospects and other select individuals with appointments, scheduling and other facilitation through clinical encounters.
- Maintain communications with colleagues in medical departments, other schools and central development to ensure effective collaborations and synergy in achieving the university’s fundraising goals.
- Develop and maintain in-depth knowledge of the Department’s needs, both general and specific to various programs and departments.
- Document all contacts, communications, visits, and proposals in i-BIS and other appropriate donor files.
- Demonstrate significant and continuous progress toward campaign or multi-year project goals.
- Reach departmental yearly cash fundraising goals (team goal).
- Make an appropriate amount of substantive cultivation and solicitation actions toward closing gifts.
- Reach individual yearly goals for "number and amounts solicited" and "number and amounts funded".
- Manage an appropriate number of active prospects and active proposals.
- Bachelor’s degree.
- Minimum 5 years of demonstrated successful experience in fundraising and fundraising management, preferably in higher education or health care. Equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.
- Outstanding oral and written communication skills, highly organized, creative, energetic, and assertive, with independent judgment and personal integrity necessary for senior management role in fundraising.
- A teamwork-oriented approach to colleagues and proven ability to partner in a positive and constructive environment.
