The Bruce W Carter Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOCs) are looking for Licensed Practical Nurses (LPN) to work in the Nursing Service Ambulatory Care PACT teams. LPNs at the GS 7 level is for select, complex assignments as established by the Miami VAMC and under the supervision of a RN and/or MD/DO.

The Licensed Practical Nurse/Licensed Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN), GS-7 performs more complex nursing assignments within their setting. The LPN/LVN possesses comprehensive practical nursing knowledge and skills in specialized procedures and practices. The LPN/LVN GS-7 work is of considerable difficulty and responsibility is performed under general supervision. Individuals in these positions are to a considerable extent, expected to exercise independent technical judgments and to possess and apply a comprehensive working knowledge of the principles, art, and science of practical nursing.

Employees at this grade level demonstrate broader knowledge skill with respect to these responsibilities than employees at lower grades.

The GS-7 LPN/LVN PACT is responsible for goals and interventions that promote veterans in attaining maximum functional potential. This is accomplished through but not limited to modalities such as ambulation, bowel and bladder training, dressing, grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, range of motion exercises and fall prevention modalities. Completed work requires only a general review by an RN/HCP for technical soundness, appropriateness and conformity to policy and accepted nursing standards.

Licensed Practical Nurse PACT has the knowledge and skills necessary to carry out more specialized patient care duties, including assignments in selected, more complex inpatient and/or outpatient care settings. Possesses comprehensive practical nursing knowledge and skills in specialized procedures and practices to serve as a resource person for other staff in organizing and implementing more complex/specialized patient care.

Major duties of the Licensed Practical Nurse Patient Aligned Care Team, PACT position includes, but are not limited to:

* Has knowledge of program regulations and is able to carry out objectives of the Nursing program. In doing this, follows the guidelines to meet and maintain program requirements.

* Demonstrates the ability to work independently without the need for readily available supervision and communicates effectively with the veteran, families, caregivers, professionals, and other supportive staff.

* Reports changes to provider and demonstrates the knowledge and ability to effectively intervene and recommend and implement strategies that assure optimal, safe and effective care.

* Demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform treatments, procedures and the use and reprocessing of reusable medical equipment appropriate to assigned duties.

* Accurately and consistently reports and records significant veteran information received from other team members and can analyze and implement modifications based on these reports.

* Prepares and administers prescribed medications (oral, topical, subcutaneous, Intramuscular, and/or intravenous) and performs treatments according to established policies/procedures.

* Observes for physical and/or emotional changes in patient's health condition, which may include prescribed medications/treatments, to promptly and accurately documenting identified changes, and reporting any deviations from normal to RN/HCP.

* Documents patient care including plans, interventions , and evaluations appropriately.

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday; 8:00am-4:30pm; flexibility in schedule may be required to ensure coverage for 24/7 operations of the facility.

Competitive salary and regular salary increases

After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66.
