The University of Miami UHealth Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology has an exciting opportunity for a full-time APRN in Miami. The incumbent provides outpatient care primarily to the gynecology oncology service at UMHC/SCCC. This position supports the physicians of the service with medically complicated clinical visits by performing comprehensive histories, physical exams, and procedures. The APRN is also primarily responsible for patient follow-up and education.
- Provide medical care to patients of the Gynecology Oncology outpatient and inpatient service by collecting comprehensive histories; making physical, neurological and gynecological assessments on women in consultation with physicians, according to divisional protocols.
- Perform screening and diagnostic medical procedures as training and experience allow and with physician supervision (for example: pap smear or vaginal culture collection, colposcopy, LEEP (loop electrosurgical procedure), cryotherapy, biopsies of the endometrim, cervix, vagina, and vulva, endocervical curettage, insertion and removal IUD)
- Consult and refer complicated medical problems to appropriate division physicians or other sub-specialties as needed
- Recruit and manage patients for participation in Gynecologic Oncology Research Trials
- Assist with teaching house staff and students that rotate through the Gynecologic Oncology Service.
- Provide continuity of care for Patients on the Gynecologic Oncology Service
- Make independent decisions in monitoring and altering of drug therapies, and in the initiation of appropriate therapies according to established protocols.
- Function within the legal scope of the practice of the APRN and prescribe medication in conjunction with the legal scope of the APRN.
- Follow-up on abnormal laboratory tests.
- Perform patient education and participate in patient/family interventions
- Assist with clinic nursing staff development
- Promotes, supports, and facilitates individuals engaging in research activities to advance research in practice: evidence-based practice, the conduct of research, research utilization, and dissemination of research results.
- Coordinates, guides, leads and provides support for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center activities and serves as the liaison to the nursing shared governance structure.
- Organizes and implements various clinical research projects with care and accuracy. Monitors the care and protection of patients in research studies.
- Conducts research needs assessments and uses results to construct a strategic plan to develop clinical research for nursing.
- Screens and recruits subjects for clinical studies. Reviews and assesses data for clinical studies.
- Collaborates and develops innovative programs to educate, mentor, and enhance the knowledge of nursing staff.
- Fosters the development of an environment conducive to the conduct of inquiry; research and practice.
- Facilitates the development of interdepartmental and interdisciplinary research activities, including generating research interest groups.
- Participates in performance improvement activities, quality improvement and patient safety activities.
- Assists in maintaining compliance accreditation and other internal and external regulatory standards including the code of conduct.
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Masters Degree in Advanced Registered Nursing
- Current and valid APRN licensure in the State of Florida
- Must be credentialed to practice by the Hospital Medical Board
- One year of experience as an APRN, preferably in OB/GYN or oncology.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills/.
- Ensuring compliance with local, state and federal health regulations.
- Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques
- Performs in tactful and professional manner.
- Good physical assessment skills required
