Associate Nurse Manager - Overview

The Associate Nurse Manager reports directly to the Nurse Manager and oversees daily operations of the assigned shift, ensuring proper care is provided to all patients. The Associate Nurse Manager is accountable for maintaining high quality, safe and appropriate nursing care, competency of clinical and support staff, and effective resource and service management related to patient care on the assigned shift.

They ensure services and care comply with the organization's policies and procedures, demonstrate fiscal responsibility, and assist the Nurse Manager with strategic unit operations, including staff meetings and other responsibilities.

Responsibilities
  • Strategic Vision – Work closely with the Nurse Manager and nursing leadership to support the mission, vision, values and strategic initiatives of Jackson Health System, and demonstrate commitment to quality service to patients, physicians, the public and co‑workers.
  • People Leadership – Improve employee engagement, hold staff accountable, provide one‑on‑one meetings, acknowledge performance, contribute to retention, and support succession planning.
  • Participate in LEAN/Process improvement work groups, lead huddles before shifts, collaborate with the Union to resolve staff issues, and promote the CARE values.
  • Initiate corrective action processes, enforce policies fairly and consistently, and participate in at least one improvement committee.
  • Service Excellence – Use and role‑model the nursing process, anticipate and report clinical findings, consistently round on patients, facilitate education of staff, and assume 24/7 responsibility in the absence of the Nurse Manager.
  • Assist the Nurse Manager with staffing requirements, nursing care, and documentation, and report issues or concerns promptly.
  • Organizational Impact – Collaborate to formulate short and long‑term goals, maintain relationships with providers, recruit and orient new employees, and promote the organization's values.
  • Work with leaders to identify, develop, and retain high‑potential employees and evaluate direct reports.
  • Support quality improvement initiatives and patient experience metrics.
  • Continuous Improvement – Analyze healthcare trends, organize data, solve problems efficiently, and support quality and performance metrics.
  • Operational Excellence – Participate in budget planning, monitor and intervene to maintain monthly budgets, schedule staffing, approve time cards, manage staffing, and maintain regulatory compliance.
  • Perform all other related duties as assigned.
Experience
  • Generally requires 3 to 5 years of related experience; management experience is strongly preferred.
Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Nursing is required.
Qualifications
  • Valid Florida RN license is required.
  • American Heart Association and other applicable life support certifications may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity, maintained with JHS for the duration of employment.
  • Meet and maintain valid and current all unit‑specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications, and licensures as required by regulatory and nursing standards of practice for the specialty.

Credentials
  • AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity.
  • AHA Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS).
