Job Summary

The Psychiatric Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) and Nurse Supervisor functions in a dual clinical and leadership role, providing comprehensive psychiatric and medical care while supervising nursing operations and staff. In collaboration with physicians, interdisciplinary teams, and nursing leadership, this role delivers holistic, compassionate, and cost-effective behavioral health and medical services to residents, patients, and program participants across Miami Jewish Health.

This position provides direct psychiatric evaluation and treatment, manages acute and chronic medical and behavioral health conditions, leads clinical teams, supervises nursing staff as assigned, and serves as an administrative and clinical liaison to ensure quality, regulatory compliance, and continuity of care across settings.

Essential Job Functions
  • Practices to the full extent of the Florida APRN license, delivering psychiatric and medical care.
  • Provides psychiatric assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and ongoing management of behavioral health conditions.
  • Manages acute, episodic, and chronic medical and psychiatric conditions in collaboration with attending and consulting physicians.
  • Performs comprehensive histories, physical examinations, psychiatric evaluations, and appropriate procedures.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic studies, labs, imaging, EKGs, and initiates treatments including IV therapy and emergency interventions.
  • Admits and coordinates transfers of patients to acute care hospitals or specialty facilities as needed.
  • Leads emergency response efforts, including CPR and rapid clinical decision‑making.
  • Follows patients across care settings (hospital, SNF, community) and communicates status updates to the care team.
  • Documents all care accurately and timely in accordance with organizational, regulatory, and payer requirements.
  • Utilizes behavioral health metrics and population health tools to optimize individualized care plans and outcomes.
Supervision & Leadership
  • Provides clinical and operational supervision of nursing staff, APRNs, medical assistants, and support personnel as assigned.
  • Directs shift‑based nursing operations and serves as a clinical leader and administrative representative when nursing administration is unavailable.
  • Leads and participates in Patient Assessment Team (PAT) calls and interdisciplinary care conferences.
  • Provides accurate and thorough handoff communication across shifts to physicians and APRNs.
  • Promotes effective communication between Nursing Services, Behavioral Health, Physicians, patients, and families.
  • Participates in morbidity and mortality reviews, quality improvement initiatives, and data‑driven performance improvement.
  • Collaborates with nursing and behavioral health leadership in staff education, training, and in‑service programs.
  • Supports development and implementation of organization‑wide behavioral health programs and initiatives.
Interdisciplinary Collaboration & Education
  • Actively participates in interdisciplinary care team (IDT), patient, and family conferences.
  • Works collaboratively with physicians, psychologists, nurses, case managers, social workers, caregivers, and ancillary staff.
  • Develops and delivers educational programs for staff, patients, and caregivers related to psychiatric and behavioral health care.
  • Serves as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing and behavioral health team members.
Job Requirements
  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing as a Registered Nurse.
  • Graduate degree with advanced training as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN).
  • Psychiatric specialty training required.
Experience
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience as an APRN.
  • Psychiatric experience required.
