Associate Nurse Manager – Progressive Care Respiratory Department

The University of Miami UHealth Hospital has an exciting opportunity for an Associate Nurse Manager to work in our Progressive Care Respiratory department.

The Associate Nurse Manager oversees and directs patient care, ensuring standards of quality, service, and safety are met within the philosophy and objectives of the University of Miami Hospitals and Clinics. Acts as the day‑to‑day ANM and directly supervises the healthcare team to ensure safe and effective clinical operations and outcomes. The ANM assists management with strategic operations of the unit, conducts staff meetings, and supports performance improvement processes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Analyzes, organizes, and prioritizes work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.
  • Oversees daily operations of the nursing unit and personnel.
  • Provides direct patient care as needed per entity standard.
  • Assumes 24/7 responsibility, when needed.
  • Collaborates with the Nurse Leaders in formulating and implementing short‑ and long‑term goals that align with organizational priorities, continuously monitoring nursing care and documentation and ensuring Standards of Practice are followed.
  • Reports issues or concerns appropriately and timely, keeping leadership informed of unusual patient or staff occurrences, staffing changes or increased acuity, and potential risk‑related incidents.
  • Assists in developing roles and responsibilities of all direct reports by fostering a culture of talent management and development within the specialty area.
  • Works with leaders to identify, develop, and retain high‑potential employees through delegation, stretch assignments, supervision, and educational programs.
  • Encourages nursing staff to advance through the Professional Development program.
  • Monitors productivity and adjusts appropriately, meeting or exceeding financial targets.
  • Works to improve employee engagement through collaboration; holds staff accountable, meets one‑on‑one with staff, and acknowledges team members for great performance.
  • Participates in and initiates the corrective action process when necessary and ensures that policies are fairly and consistently followed and enforced.
  • Demonstrates active support of the hospital Process Improvement philosophies and aligns departmental goals to support PI initiatives.
  • Works closely with Direct or Indirect leaders in developing quality improvement/PI processes to assure safe, quality patient outcomes and implements Evidence‑Based Best Practices; actively involved in at least one policy or process improvement committee.
  • Consistently rounds on patients, monitors bedside handoff, and ensures responsiveness of staff to call lights; establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures and ensures employees are trained on controls and University policy.
Minimum Requirements
  • Education:

    Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field
  • Certification and Licensing:
    Registered Nurse licensure
  • Experience:

    Minimum 3 years of relevant nursing experience
