Senior Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner; Student Health Clinics

Job Summary

Specializes in the mental health needs of FIU students and develops appropriate treatment plans adhering to evidence-based guidelines. Conducts initial psychiatric evaluations and provides individual treatment to FIU students with a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other psychiatric disorders.

• Conduct initial psychiatric evaluations to determine the mental health needs of FIU students and develop appropriate treatment plans adhering to evidence-based guidelines.
• Provide individual treatment to FIU students with a range of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, and other psychiatric disorders.
• Prescribe appropriate medication for FIU students with behavioral health issues and maintain continuity of care by monitoring reactions to the medication and treatment regime.
• Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including primary care physicians, psychologists, and social workers, to provide comprehensive coordinated care to college students.
• Accurately document all patient care activities in electronic health records in a timely and accurate manner.
• Maintain current knowledge of psychiatric medications, treatments, and trends in mental health care through continuing education opportunities.
• Participate in quality improvement activities, such as chart reviews, to ensure the delivery of high-quality mental health care services to college students.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy in accordance with applicable laws and regulations and comply with all organizational policies and procedures, including those related to safety, infection control, HIPAA, and FERPA.
• Demonstrate a commitment to multiculturalism and serving underrepresented populations.
• Assist in developing and implementing procedures relevant to psychiatric services.
• Perform essential duties in any emergencies such as hurricanes, storms, or other university emergencies; the employee is expected to be available to report to work as needed during university emergency closing with appropriate notification of a department administrator.

• Master's of Science in Nursing and four (4) years of experience as an APRN.

• Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN)
• Basic Life Support (BLS)

• Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Florida license (PMHNP)
• Must obtain Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) certification within three (3) months of hire.

• Strong knowledge of various psychotherapeutic methods.
• Ability to explain complex medical concepts in an easy-to-understand manner.
• Excellent observational and assessment skills.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
