Description
Compassionate patient and family centered care through a collaborative multidisciplinary approach. Assesses, implements, evaluates, and oversees the plan of care for Pre/Post General Pediatric, Plastic, Orthopedic Surgeries, Chronic Ventilator, Trauma, ENT, Urology, and Med/Surg patients. Supports and upholds quality standards of a Magnet designated hospital and Patient Bill of Rights and practices under the supervision of the Nursing Manager/Director. Minimum job requirements: CPR:
Healthcare Provider; RN licensure within the State of Florida; PALS certification completed within two years of hire.
Essential duties and responsibilities include:
- Completes all nursing multi‑system assessments including head‑to‑toe, vitals, dressing changes, suction, feeding, bathing, and repositioning.
- Reviews patient admission history and prepares and accurately completes the discharge planning process as per department and hospital policies.
- Prepares patient for transfer and communicates patient’s condition, history, and progress to the receiving nurse.
- Communicates the patient’s progress, including critical findings and changes in condition, to physicians and other disciplines involved in the child’s care.
- Plans, implements, and documents the plan of care in collaboration with other disciplines and services to assure safe and efficient care.
- Assists the medical team with special procedures such as lumbar punctures, biopsies, monitoring IV and surgical sites, specimen collection, and promptly responds to medical equipment.
- Follows physician’s orders and administers medications as directed, adhering to the six rights of medication administration.
- Provides patient information and effectively completes the hand‑off process at shift change and patient reassignments.
- Collaborates and rounds with a multi‑disciplinary team during daily care planning rounds to foster a family‑centered care environment.
- Accesses the electronic health record independently according to hospital policy and completes accurate and timely documentation.
- Communicates with patients and families to review the plan of care, solicits input, and communicates concerns to the physician.
- Educates patients and families about disease processes and post‑treatment home care, including medication, treatments, pain, discharge, safety, and skin care.
- Promotes an error‑free working environment by consistently providing high‑quality, safe care as per hospital policies, conducting prevention rounding, and following up on identified concerns promptly.
- Assesses all body systems, ensuring safe, effective, efficient care delivery with emphasis on preventing medication errors, avoiding falls, reducing procedural pain, and minimizing overall pain.
- Strong problem‑solving, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and strong time‑management skills.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.
- Computer literacy.
National certification preferred within five years of hire. BSN degree required or currently enrolled in a BSN program. Trauma certification is preferred. Nursing experience in a pediatric healthcare setting and/or experience in an operating room or surgical services inpatient nursing unit is preferred. Works effectively in a collaborative environment and applies principles of evidence‑based practice and analytical thinking to achieve service excellence.
