This position involves comprehensive assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of nursing care for hospitalized patients, ensuring their safety and comfort throughout the night. The RN collaborates closely with interdisciplinary healthcare teams to monitor patient conditions, administer medications, and respond promptly to emergencies or changes in patient status.

By maintaining accurate documentation and adhering to established protocols, the nurse supports continuity of care and facilitates smooth transitions between shifts. Ultimately, this role is essential in promoting positive patient outcomes and enhancing the overall inpatient experience during night hours.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Current and valid Registered Nurse (RN) license in the United States.
  • Completion of an accredited nursing program (Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Previous experience in an inpatient hospital setting, preferably in a medical-surgical or similar unit.
  • Ability to work independently during night shifts with strong clinical judgment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree.
  • Advanced certifications such as Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) or Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
  • Experience working in an inpatient unit with complex or critical care patients.
  • Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems and documentation software.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills demonstrated in a multidisciplinary healthcare environment.
Responsibilities:
  • Conduct thorough patient assessments and monitor vital signs to identify any changes in condition during the night shift.
  • Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, ensuring adherence to safety standards and protocols.
  • Collaborate with physicians, specialists, and other healthcare professionals to develop and update individualized care plans.
  • Respond promptly to patient emergencies and provide appropriate interventions to stabilize and support patients.
  • Document all nursing care activities, patient responses, and clinical observations accurately and timely in the medical record.
  • Educate patients and their families about care plans, medications, and post-discharge instructions as needed.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and therapeutic environment for patients and staff throughout the night shift.
Skills:

The required skills enable the nurse to perform comprehensive patient assessments, administer medications safely, and respond effectively to emergencies during night shifts. Clinical judgment and critical thinking are essential for identifying subtle changes in patient conditions and making timely decisions. Communication skills facilitate collaboration with healthcare team members and provide clear education to patients and families. Proficiency with electronic health records ensures accurate documentation and supports continuity of care.

Preferred skills such as advanced certifications and experience with complex cases enhance the nurse's ability to manage diverse patient needs and contribute to improved clinical outcomes.
