Holtz Children's Hospital at the University of Miami/Jackson Memorial Medical Center is one of the largest pediatric hospitals in the southeast United States. • PRM LPN performs advanced practical nursing work in the care and treatment of patients in assigned area(s).
• Employees in this classification perform a variety of nursing care assignments in one or more medical areas, requiring more advanced knowledge and skills of practical nursing.
• Emphasis of the work is on performance of specialized as well as more difficult and responsible duties in patient care, giving assistance to physicians and nurses, and performing instructional tasks.

• Interview patients about current problems, medications, and allergies, review the medical record for pertinent information, keep patients informed of their medical condition and the course of treatment, and participate in treatment regimens, including administering medications under the supervision of a physician and registered nurse.
• Establish and document patient treatment regimens under supervision of RN or MD, and implement treatment as directed.
• Perform routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, visual acuity testing, and administer and read TB tests. Assist in phlebotomy by identifying patients, checking requisition forms, and preparing equipment and puncture sites.
• Assist in IV set‑up: verify solution to be administered, evaluate infusion site, check IV function and patient comfort, and discontinue IV at the appropriate time, as ordered by MD and under RN supervision.
• Maintain adequate inventory of narcotics after each tour of duty, keep examination room supplies, prepare exam rooms at the beginning and end of the day, and between patient contacts. Perform office responsibilities such as answering phones, taking messages, and triage within the scope of licensed practical nursing practice.
• Facilitate and assist in the coordination of patient referrals. Participate in orientation and training of new personnel. Demonstrate commitment to service excellence by consistently adjusting work pace when needed to maintain or improve patient care outcomes.
• Follow and perform all related unit‑specific policies and procedures, as detailed on the unit‑specific competency checklist. Utilize job and unit‑specific equipment as required.
• Demonstrate behaviors of service excellence and CARE values (Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Expertise). Perform any other related duties as assigned.

Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.

Graduation from an accredited LPN program is required.

Ability to analyze, organize, and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to handle difficult and stressful situations with critical thinking and professional composure. Ability to understand and follow instructions. Knowledge and skill in use of job‑appropriate technology and software applications. Must meet and maintain current all unit‑specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licenses, as required by the nursing area.

• Valid Florida LPN license is required.
• American Heart Association and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers may be required at the unit level upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. 30‑hour IV training must be from a Florida Board of Nursing approved program or be a Compact Nursing State program.

AHA Basic Life Support (BLS) with 6 months validity.
