Summary
The Miami VA Healthcare System's Nursing Education Service is seeking an experienced and dynamic Registered Nurse‑Educator for Mental Health. Candidates should be committed to achieving quality care standards and to the growth and development of a VA academic hospital program.
Qualifications- English Language Proficiency
- Compliance with 38 U.S.C. 7403(f) – must be proficient in basic written and spoken English
- Graduate of a professionally accredited nursing school (ACEN or CCNE) or participating in a master’s level bridge program with completed undergraduate equivalency
- Upon state license achievement, may be appointed temporarily and later converted to a permanent appointment after program completion
- Foreign‑educated graduates must hold a current, full, active, and unrestricted registration, with formal equivalency validation if level exceeds associate or entry‑level (e.g., ICD)
- Graduate Nurse Technician (GNT) exception: eligible for 120‑day temporary appointment while pursuing licensure, possibly extended up to two years
- Grade determinations based on education and professional experience (see online assessment for detailed criteria)
- Preferred: MSN or Doctoral degree with 3–5 years experience as an educator, mental health focus, and psychiatric mental health certification
- Physical requirements:
must pass a VA pre‑employment physical exam and be capable of moderate lifting, carrying, reaching, and standing up to 8 hours - Must be physically, emotionally, and mentally stable to perform essential functions safely
- Provide competent, evidence‑based education to nursing staff in clinical and outpatient units
- Implement instructional design, assessment, and training within the organization
- Orient new employees, evaluate their progress, and develop individualized learning plans
- Serve as trainer and consultant for the Resuscitation Education Initiative (REDI), including BLS instructor certification
- Oversee training programs to meet regulatory requirements and support nursing standards across the system
- Collaborate with other services to support system‑wide education initiatives and competency requirements
- Offer clinical and administrative recommendations to leadership on nursing education and evidence‑based practice
- Plan, design, implement, and modify nursing education activities at service and facility levels
- Manage resources across nursing education programs, participate in budgeting, and forecast emerging needs
- Continuously improve nursing education using National League of Nursing competencies and promote transformational care in all patient care areas
- Coordinate collaborations with clinical educators, leaders, infection control, program managers, nursing operations, informatics, media, logistics, accreditation, patient safety, shared governance, and ADPCS office
- Work Schedule:
Monday‑Friday 7:30 am‑4:00 pm (shift duties may vary based on facility needs) - Compensation:
Competitive salary with regular increases, performance awards, 50 days paid time off (26 days leave, 13 days sick, 11 paid federal holidays), federal pension (5‑year vesting), 401(k) with up to 5% VA contribution, federal health/vision/dental/term life/long‑term care insurance, and unrestricted state license requirement
