Licensed Practical Nurse; South Medical Clinic; Days

LPNs must have at least 1 to 2 years of experience and a 30‑hour IV therapy infusion course to be considered.

Shift: 10 AM – 10 PM

Licensed Practical Nurse performs advanced practical nursing work in the care and treatment of physically or mentally ill patients. Employees in this classification perform a variety of nursing care assignments in one or more inpatient or outpatient areas, requiring more advanced knowledge and skills of practical nursing. Emphasis of the work is on performance of specialized as well as more difficult and responsible duties in patient care, giving assistance to physicians and nurses, and performing instructional tasks.

• Interview patients about current problems, medications, and allergies and review medical records for pertinent information.
• Keep patients informed of their medical condition and the course of treatment prescribed by an MD.
• Participate in patient treatment regimens, including administering medications under physician and RN supervision.
• Establish and document patient treatment regimens under RN or MD supervision and implement them as directed.
• Perform routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, visual acuity testing, and administer/read TB tests.
• Assist in phlebotomy: identify patient, verify requisition forms, and prepare equipment and puncture site.
• Assist in IV set‑up: verify solution, evaluate infusion site, check IV function, ensure patient comfort, and discontinue IV when ordered.
• Maintain adequate inventory of narcotics, examination room supplies, and prepare exam rooms before, during, and after patient care.
• Handle office responsibilities: answer phones, take messages, and perform triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice.
• Facilitate and assist in the coordination of patient referrals.
• Participate in orientation and training of new personnel.
• Demonstrate commitment to service excellence by adjusting work pace to maintain or improve patient care outcomes.
• Follow and perform all related unit‑specific policies and procedures as detailed on the unit‑specific competency check‑list.
• Utilize job and unit‑specific equipment as required.
• Perform all other related job duties as assigned.

Generally requires 1 to 3 years of related experience.

Graduation from an accredited LPN program is required.

• Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work accurately while meeting multiple deadlines.

• Must meet and maintain current all unit‑specific and organizational skills/competencies, certifications/licensures, as required by the nursing area.

Valid Florida LPN license is required. American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and any additional applicable life support certification for Healthcare Providers is required upon hire with at least 6 months validity and maintenance at JHS for the duration of employment. 30‑hour IV training must be from a Florida Board of Nursing approved program or be a Compact Nursing State program.

Job function requires extended standing or walking. Must be able to carry objects weighing 21 to 50 pounds and lift or move objects weighing 51 to 100 pounds with the use of appropriate devices. Jobs in this group require frequent visual acuity to perform activities related to extended use of computers.
