Primary FunctionThe Safety Manager is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all facility safety and occupational health programs to ensure a safe, compliant, and well-regulated operational environment within the detention facility. This role ensures adherence to federal, state, and local safety regulations, as well as government specific safety requirements. The Safety Manager maintains a continuous onsite presence to monitor safety performance, enforce safety standards, and support a proactive safety culture across all facility operations.
All services shall be provided in accordance with established standards, principles and ethics of the profession, applicable professional specialty organizations, and the high-quality standard for which Acuity International is recognized. Duties and Responsibilities- Develop, implement, and manage the facility's Safety and Occupational Health Program, ensuring compliance with OSHA, government safety directives, and applicable regulatory standards.
- Conduct routine facility wide safety inspections to identify hazards, verify compliance, and document corrective actions.
- Lead incident investigations, root‑cause analyses, and corrective‑action planning to prevent recurrence.
- Provide safety training, drills, and ongoing coaching for staff, contractors, and facility personnel.
- Maintain all required safety documentation, including logs, reports, permits, and inspection records.
- Monitor operational activities (e.g., detainee movement, food services, maintenance operations, medical operations, transportation) to ensure safe practices and hazard controls are in place.
- Coordinate with facility leadership, Quality Control, Environmental, and government representatives to ensure safe execution of all operational activities.
- Serve as the primary onsite authority for safety and health matters throughout facility operations.
- Ensure compliance with PPE requirements, hazard communication protocols, emergency procedures, and occupational health standards.
- Support emergency preparedness planning and conduct required drills (fire, evacuation, medical, security‑related emergencies).
- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Public Administration, or related field.
- 3-5 years of safety experience in corrections or command center environments.
- Strong knowledge of detention standards, federal regulations, and audit procedures.
- Safety certification such as the Construction Health and Safety Technician (CHST), Occupational Health and Safety Technician (OHST), or Associate Safety Professional (ASP) through Board of Certified Safety Professionals (BCSP).
- Experience with incident tracking systems and quality management software.
- Must be able to multi‑task, be detail‑oriented, be organized, and have excellent verbal and communication skills.
- Ability to obtain and maintain necessary clearances and credentials required for access to detention facilities.
- Ability to obtain and maintain favorable background investigations.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident, resided in the U.S. for 3 years in the past 5 years.
