Overview
The Quality Manager (QM) is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the site's Quality Management System (QMS) while leading the Quality Assurance (QA) team. This role ensures compliance with corporate, customer, and regulatory quality standards.
ResponsibilitiesQuality Management System (QMS):
- Serve as Management Representative for QMS (e.g., ISO 9001, AS9100).
- Maintain and improve QMS, ensuring compliance with all standards and regulations.
- Manage external audits; train, schedule, and lead internal audit teams in line with QMS requirements.
- Own and manage document control, traceability, RCCA, and change control processes (e.g., ICNs, ACNs).
- Report QMS performance and continuous improvement opportunities to site and corporate leadership.
Leadership and Departmental Oversight:
- Lead, staff, and develop the QA team; assign responsibilities and evaluate performance.
- Provide training, performance reviews, and recognition for team contributions.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Corporate Quality to align quality objectives and foster a quality-driven culture across the factory.
Product and Process Quality:
- Develop and maintain control plans, inspection plans, procedures, and quality documentation.
- Ensure quality requirements flow from customer orders through to final shipment.
- Confirm product certifications and First Article Inspections (AS9102) are prepared, reviewed, and in compliance with customer specifications, regulatory standards, and internal procedures.
- Support resolution of quality issues in collaboration with operations and engineering.
Customer & Supplier Engagement:
- Address customer (internal/ external) complaints, returns, and support Sales on quality topics.
- Participate in quoting and contract review for quality-related requirements.
- Engage with vendors to resolve supplier quality issues.
Data Analysis & Continuous Improvement:
- Lead quality improvement projects using 8D, 5-Why, DOE, FMEA, and capability studies.
- Track, analyze, and report site-level Quality KPIs (e.g., defect rate, FPY, CARs/SCARs, customer returns, audit findings) to drive operational and strategic improvement.
- Promote 5S, safety, and lean manufacturing initiatives.
Metrology & Technical Support:
- Ensure calibration traceability of precision measurement equipment and support advancement of metrology capabilities aligned with EOFL's optical manufacturing processes.
- Conduct Measurement System Analysis and ensure proper transfer from Engineering to Manufacturing.
Training & Development:
- Develop and deliver training programs for QA and factory personnel.
- Promote cross-training and skills development.

Required Skills & Abilities:
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience leading a QA or QC function is desired.
- Working knowledge of ISO 9001, AS9100, and ISO 13485.
- Familiarity with Six Sigma, Lean, FMEA, SPC, and problem-solving tools.
- Experience in optical/mechanical inspection methods is preferred.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and statistical software (e.g., Minitab, Infinity
QS, SAP QIM, etc.). - U.S. Citizenship or permanent residence required.
Education/
Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Optics, Engineering, or related technical field; or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of experience in a quality manufacturing environment.
Certifications (Required within 18 Months):
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt (Black Belt preferred).
- ASQ Certified Quality Manager or equivalent.
- Certified ISO 9001 or AS9100 Lead Internal Auditor.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Stand and sit for extended periods. Ability to travel as needed.
Compensation Range TransparencyAt Edmund Optics, we are committed to transparency and equity in our hiring practices. The posted salary range for this role reflects the expected base pay. The actual offer will be based on multiple factors, including but not limited to relevant skills, education, work experience, business needs, and geographic location.
Salary Range: $95,000 - $110,000 per year
