The Role

Quality Control Lab Technician

Job Summary:

The QC Lab Technician role will contribute to Sucafina’s vision by ensuring the quality, accuracy, and timeliness for each shipment of coffee by coordinating green coffee samples. The Lab Technician position is responsible for supporting green coffee sales by managing the daily flow of green coffee samples in the lab.

Responsibilities:
  • Support daily cupping activities, including set up and break down according to SCA protocol and QC lab specifications;
  • Accurately log inbound samples received in the lab within 24 hours;
  • Send pre-shipment samples and specialty offer samples to roasters within 24 hours of request.
  • Maintain storage and organization for specialty spot offer samples, PSS, Offer, Type, and Commercial Arrival samples;
  • Accurately weigh, pack, label, and seal samples according to QC protocols;
  • Roast daily sample allotment as needed according to SCA Sample Roasting specifications;
  • Ensure daily lab reset and physical readiness for upcoming cuppings and sample workflows;
  • Maintain the equipment and cleanliness of the cupping lab;
  • Perform green coffee physical analysis, including screen grading, defect identification, and moisture measurement as needed;
  • Assist with public cuppings, private cuppings for roasters, and lab events;
  • Support other QC and administrative tasks upon request from traders and managers;
  • Opportunity to calibrate and contribute to daily cupping scores in the near or long-term, depending on experience.
Qualifications &

Competencies:
  • Proficient in MS Excel
  • Knowledge of specialty and/or commercial coffee
  • Strong written and verbal communicator
  • 3 to 5 years of coffee industry or related experience preferred
  • Q-grader, SCA taster’s pathway, Exchange grader, COE judge, and other professional coffee sensory credentials not required, but a huge plus!
  • Hard-working, curious, creative problem-solver, able to learn, and comfortable working independently;
  • Organized and able to manage a fast-paced work environment;
