Safety Coordinator - Transportation

An ocean transportation company is looking to hire a Safety Coordinator to join their team in Miami. This position is responsible for reviewing and evaluating work environments and developing programs to control, eliminate, and prevent workplace hazards caused by chemical, physical, biological, and ergonomic factors. This role will help develop and enforce safety policies in compliance with state and federal regulations while supporting accident prevention and workplace health initiatives.

Responsibilities:
* Evaluate work environments to identify and mitigate health and safety risks.
* Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures.
* Conduct safety committee meetings, accident investigations, and employee training.
* Ensure corrective actions are taken to address identified hazards and deficiencies.
* Board vessels as required via gangway access to conduct safety activities, including incident and injury investigations, and coordinate with vessel personnel to ensure compliance with safety procedures and regulatory requirements.
* Conduct drug and alcohol testing when needed and coordinate with HR on workers" compensation and safety compliance.
* Prepare, maintain, and update safety documentation, logs, and reports.
* Collaborate with the Hazmat team on incident response and compliance activities.
* Monitor compliance with OSHA, DOT, and other applicable regulatory standards.
* Conduct regular safety audits, workplace inspections, and new-hire orientations.
* Prepare reports and maintain communication with regulatory agencies. Requirements:
* 3+ years of safety experience at an industrial site with OSHA and DOT knowledge.
* High School diploma or equivalent; TWIC card required within 30 days of employment.
* Ability to independently identify and assess workplace hazards while conducting safety audits
* Intermediate skills in MS Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel (create charts, formulas, and reports)
* Ability to communicate in English & Spanish
* Valid driver"s license and clean driving record.
* Flexible to work extended hours as needed, including weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Previous experience working in the maritime industry.
* Familiarity with EPA and DEP regulations and requirements.
* Associate degree in occupational safety, environmental health and safety, or a related field.
