Archaeology Specialist – Disaster Recovery (NHPA / EHP Support)
Location: Remote / Field-based as needed
Employment Type: Contract or Full-Time (70%+ commitment required)
Position OverviewWe are seeking an experienced Archaeology Specialist to support a disaster recovery team by assisting with National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) compliance as part of the Environmental and Historic Preservation (EHP) review process. The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in archaeology and demonstrated experience supporting Section 106 consultations, particularly in post-disaster or federally funded project environments.
This role plays a critical part in ensuring compliance with federal historic preservation requirements while supporting timely disaster recovery efforts.
Key Responsibilities- Provide technical support for NHPA compliance, including participation in Section 106 reviews
- Assist with EHP documentation related to disaster recovery and federally funded programs
- Coordinate with federal, state, tribal, and local stakeholders, including SHPOs/THPOs, during consultation processes
- Review archaeological reports, records searches, and survey results
- Support identification, evaluation, and treatment recommendations for historic and archaeological resources
Contribute to schedules and deliverables to meet disaster recovery timelines
- SOI Qualified (Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualification Standards) in Archaeology
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in Archaeology, Anthropology, or a closely related field
- Professional experience working in archaeology or cultural resources management
- Ability to commit 70% or more time to the project
- Demonstrated experience with NHPA Section 106 consultations
- Familiarity with disaster recovery programs (e.g., FEMA, HUD, or other federally funded initiatives)
- Experience preparing or reviewing EHP-related documentation
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
