The Department of Pediatrics at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is seeking a candidate for a full-time non-tenure track Research Assistant Professor position in the Division of Neonatology to expand its clinical research program by providing essential support to neonatal genomics/multiomics and genetics of rare diseases in children and enhance the department's overall core mission in furthering child health research.
Candidates must have a PhD, MD, or DVM degree with demonstrated basic, clinical, and/or translational research experience, and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate must have a strong track record of working efficiently independently and as part of a collaborative group.
The incumbent will devote 100% effort to basic science research focused on the development of basic science research foci including:
- Novel gene discovery by reanalysis of undiagnosed rare diseases and evaluation of the underlying mechanisms of rarer diseases using patient-derived cells and animal models.
- Integrate novel omics (including (but not limited to): genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, phosphoproteomics, and interactome) in combination with traditional techniques to decipher the underlying mechanisms of various rare diseases
- Developing and participating in original research, either basic or translational, for which extramural funding should be sought
- Designing and conducting experiments
- Collecting and interpreting data for presentation to and review with the PI
- Assisting in project planning and timing management
- Perform key research projects under the supervision and guidance of the PI and lab members
- Research with PI in Novel gene discovery by reanalysis of undiagnosed rare diseases and evaluation of the underlying mechanisms of rarer diseases using patient-derived cells and animal models.
- Research focus on studying the integrate novel omics (including (but not limited to): genomics, transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, phosphoproteomics, and interactome) in combination with traditional techniques to decipher the underlying mechanisms of various rare diseases
- Developing and executing innovative research ideas under the close mentorship of the PI
- Administrative laboratory duties in conjunction with the Lab Manager and PI
- Submitting articles for peer reviewed publications
- Presenting research results at scientific meetings
