Research Assistant/Associate, Clinical Research, Medical Technologist & Lab Technician, Research Scientist
The department of Medicine, division of Infectious Diseases, has an exciting opportunity for a full-time Research Assistant to work onsite on the UHealth campus. The Research Assistant contributes with research investigators by providing research and experimentation support while following established protocols. Further, the Research Assistant performs a clerical role to ensure the smooth operations of office facilities. The Research Assistant will perform a variety of technical duties involved in conducting physical, chemical, biological and other research laboratory tests to obtain data for research purposes.
This individual will conduct laboratory methods utilizing the latest methodologies in molecular and cell biology in support of sponsored research, review scientific journals, abstracts and other literature for information applicable to research experiments.
- Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus and makes minor repairs.
- Prepares correspondence and answers phones.
- Formulates and maintains bibliographies and completes applications and forms.
- Orders laboratory supplies and maintains culture media reagents. Set up instruments, materials and apparatus and operate laboratory equipment required for specific tests. Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Reviews and edits various materials for publication and prepares publication schedules.
- Maintains appropriate logs, records, and laboratory notebooks.
- Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures. Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs). The Research Assistant will work under the direction of the principal investigator, program director or designee, such as a Lab Manager or above.
- Assemble annual and monthly reports and presentations. Communicate with the PI or assigned supervisor regarding experimental data, laboratory, or other work-related issues.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Work-related knowledge in tissue culture, molecular biology and genetics laboratory test techniques.
- Work- related knowledge qPCR, PCR, DNA/RNA extraction, molecular cloning, amplification of DNA sequences by PCR, protein expression techniques, protein purification, plasmid analyses by restriction digest, protein gel electrophoresis, DNA gel electrophoresis, Western blotting, Southern Blotting, siRNA/DNA transfections, are preferred.
- Collaborate with other employees, good organizational skills, and excellent computer skills required.
- Excellent English language skills (both verbal and written) required.
- High School diploma or equivalent required
- Minimum 1 year of relevant experience
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
