Research Associate II

About the Position

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Sciences invites applications for a Research Associate II position in the NOAA Fisheries‑Highly Migratory Species Branch in Panama City, FL.

• Conduct field work and research related to biological sampling, acoustic and satellite labeling of sharks or similar fauna.
• Deploy and maintain acoustic monitoring arrays.
• Analyze telemetry data and fisheries ecological data.
• Participate in research cruises on commercial fishing vessels and work productively at sea.
• Perform data entry, data management, and analysis.
• Assist in the preparation of reports and peer‑reviewed publications.
• Work on additional specified projects within the Highly Migratory Species Branch to support research goals of SEFSC and NOAA Fisheries.

• Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in marine biology, ecology, environmental science, fisheries science, or a related field.
• At least 2 years of experience conducting field work and research relevant to biological sampling, acoustic and satellite tagging of sharks or similar fauna.
• Experience deploying and maintaining acoustic monitoring arrays and analyzing telemetry and fisheries ecological data.
• Experience in offshore or nearshore fieldwork is recommended.
• Willingness and physical ability to participate in research cruises and work at sea.
• Experience using the programming language R or similar statistical software is desired.
• Proficiency in common computer applications for word processing, analysis, and database management (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel).
