About the Position
The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) at the University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Sciences invites applications for a Research Associate II position in the NOAA Fisheries‑Highly Migratory Species Branch in Panama City, FL.
Responsibilities- Conduct field work and research related to biological sampling, acoustic and satellite labeling of sharks or similar fauna.
- Deploy and maintain acoustic monitoring arrays.
- Analyze telemetry data and fisheries ecological data.
- Participate in research cruises on commercial fishing vessels and work productively at sea.
- Perform data entry, data management, and analysis.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and peer‑reviewed publications.
- Work on additional specified projects within the Highly Migratory Species Branch to support research goals of SEFSC and NOAA Fisheries.
- Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in marine biology, ecology, environmental science, fisheries science, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of experience conducting field work and research relevant to biological sampling, acoustic and satellite tagging of sharks or similar fauna.
- Experience deploying and maintaining acoustic monitoring arrays and analyzing telemetry and fisheries ecological data.
- Experience in offshore or nearshore fieldwork is recommended.
- Willingness and physical ability to participate in research cruises and work at sea.
- Experience using the programming language R or similar statistical software is desired.
- Proficiency in common computer applications for word processing, analysis, and database management (e.g., MS Word, MS Excel).
