Research Associate 1

The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. Moreover, the incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.

Core job functions include understanding and interpreting research protocols and procedures, participating in the publication of significant results, maintaining an overview of relevant research findings, ensuring all research is undertaken according to good research practice, keeping abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research, collecting, preparing, analyzing, dissecting, and evaluating specimens or tissue cultures, operating and maintaining laboratory equipment, performing a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies, performing calculations to complete research test results, collecting data, and performing statistical analysis of laboratory results, and adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguarding University assets.

Bachelor's Degree in relevant field required

• Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

The incumbent will conduct research related to pancreatic and other gastrointestinal cancers under the supervision of the Principal Investigator.

• Contributes to basic and applied research activities by assisting with laboratory experiments and caretaking of transgenic mouse colonies under the supervision of the Principal Investigator or designate (effort: 40%)
• Oversees laboratory supplies and coordinates laboratory transactions (effort: 25%).
• Ensures laboratory is compliant with safety and other institutional requirements (effort: 25%).
• Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets (effort: 10%).
