The Silveira Lab is searching for a Postdoctoral Associate in the Department of Biology to work on a NASA-funded project investigating how bacteriophages modulate the production of geochemical biomarkers by green and purple sulfur bacteria. The biosignatures produced by these bacteria are used as proxies for anoxic ocean conditions in Earth's geologic past and possibly for the detection of life on other planets.
The postdoc will conduct field experiments and bioinformatic analyses in collaboration with organic and inorganic geochemists at the University of Pittsburgh, Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, and the University of Lausanne.
The ideal candidate will have a microbial ecology and genomics background and experience with metagenomics. Other essential qualifications are a background in statistical methods, a strong work ethic, the ability to work in a multidisciplinary and collaborative group, and a track record of publications. The candidate must also be willing to spend periods of two weeks to two months doing fieldwork in possible exerting conditions.

The candidate must have a deep interest in phage biology and microbial community interactions with their geochemical environment.
The Postdoctoral Associate will have opportunities for career growth by collaborating with multiple research groups, attending meetings, and through institutional access to career development platforms at the University of Miami.
