Core Job Summary
The Research Associate 1, SOM supports research activities for the assigned division by conducting laboratory experiments on assigned research projects. The incumbent operates with the goal of advancing his/her expertise through continued education, training, and research.
Core Job Functions- Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
- Participates in the publication of significant results.
- Maintains an overview of relevant research findings.
- Ensures all research is undertaken according to good research practice.
- Keeps abreast of current publications relative to methods, techniques, and developments within the area of research.
- Collects, prepares, analyzes, dissects, and evaluates specimens or tissue cultures.
- Operates and maintains laboratory equipment.
- Performs a variety of routine assays, tests, and studies.
- Performs calculations to complete research test results, collects data, and performs statistical analysis of laboratory results.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

Core QualificationsEducation: Bachelor’s degree in relevant field required.
Experience: No previous experience required.
Certification and Licensing: Refer to department description for applicable certification requirements.

Job Summary (Purpose and Function): The individual will be a critical member of an NIH‑funded program. The work involves both in vitro and in vivo experiments that will support the discovery and development of novel therapeutics.
Accountabilities- Conduct biochemical and cell‑based assays, including high‑content screening assays.
- Perform routine molecular biology (cloning, PCR, RT‑PCR, prepare viral vectors) to support the in vitro and in vivo experiments.
- Perform immunochemical staining of tissue sections, and both fluorescent and confocal microscopy.
- Maintain laboratory areas; order lab supplies, participate in weekly lab meetings, including presenting results and methods to group members; plan weekly work schedules.
- Keep detailed laboratory notebooks and maintain documents relating to standard‑operating procedures and vectors.
- Assist other staff or trainees within the lab.
- Other duties as assigned.
