Associate Scientist, SOM
The Associate Scientist, SOM supports the University's research goals and objectives by performing laboratory experiments in his/her areas of interest, expertise, or assignment. Moreover, the incumbent performs various analytical procedures involving method development and application development and synthesis.
Core job functions include contributing to basic and applied research activities, supervising research employees, writing extramural proposals, creating and conducting experiments, working with other researchers to develop end products, providing access to experimental data, requesting or acquiring equipment and supplies, applying for grants, and adhering to University and unit-level policies and procedures.

Core qualifications include a Ph.D., M.D. or other doctoral level degree, minimum 5 years of relevant experience, learning agility, teamwork, technical proficiency, and strong communication skills.
Department specific functions include ensuring laboratory employees adhere to guidelines and safety protocols, overseeing day to day operations of the laboratory, onboarding new trainees, creating and organizing lab records, overseeing licensing and budgeting, writing and reviewing protocols, overseeing laboratory budgeting and sample inventories, editing manuscripts, designing experiments, mining large sequencing data sets, coordinating laboratory presentations, coordinating lab meetings, and performing experiments on specific projects.
