Research Laboratory Technician
The Department of Molecular and Cellular Pharmacology has an exciting opportunity for a part time Research Laboratory Technician. The Research Laboratory Technician aids scientists in their experiments by performing experiments and recording their findings. Often performs biological or chemical research. Moreover, the Research Laboratory Technician will assist the principle investigator in managing the laboratory and ensuring laboratory compliance with applicable safety regulations.
Core
Job Functions:
- Cleans, sanitizes, maintains and operates lab equipment.
- Aids scientists with experiments and may perform some experiments or some parts of experiments.
- Keeps records, use computers and computerized equipment for research, and may assist with analysis of research data.
- Maintains lab supplies inventory by checking stock to determine inventory level, placing and expediting orders for supplies and verifying receipt of supplies.
- Performs various editorial duties and works closely with research members to provide proofreading for manuscripts and grant proposals as well as writing support for lab protocols.
- Processes, organizes and summarizes data. Reports experiment results using a variety of scientific, word processing, spreadsheet or power point applications or program platforms.
- Ensures compliance with all applicable safety regulations in conjunction with the lab and safety and regulatory offices.
- Coordinate and carry out shipments of laboratory reagents.
- Perform PCR genotyping for animals.
- Perform basic data analyses of cell and animal experiments.
- Sets up and operates various scientific apparatus as needed.
- Prepares and maintains culture media reagents.
- Orders laboratory supplies as needed.
- Attends and participates in meetings, conferences, and training groups as requested.
- Records research procedures and results.
- Maintains records, codes data for input for electronic data processing inputs and retrieves data electronically.
- Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Core Requirements:
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
Minimum one year experience. Laboratory experience in molecular and cellular biology, preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to interact well across diverse scientific and professional disciplines.
- Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office Applications.
- Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.
- Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.
- Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
- Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.
