The Caring Place (@Miami Rescue Mission & Broward Outreach Centers) is a leading provider of services to the homeless and needy of South Florida. We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team. The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for “at-risk” youth.

We are currently seeking a FT Cashier at The Caring Place Thrift Store in Miami, FL,

JOB SUMMARY

The Cashier reports to the Director of Social Enterprises and is responsible for ringing up all sales in the Thrift Stores and for daily balancing procedures of the sales registers to actual cash and charge slips contained in register. The Cashier must be able to sign the Mission’s Statement of Faith.

CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Rings up and totals purchases in cash register. Always gives receipts to customer for a paid purchase
• Greets and deals with public, clients, and personnel in an even-tempered, courteous, and fair manner
• Counts money in drawer before opening
• Operates a cash register, and balances at the end of the day
• Gives money to supervisor for daily deposit
• Stocks and arranges merchandise in cashier’s display case and assists with stocking shelves as needed
• Keeps cashier area neat, clean, and free of clutter
• Adheres to store policies regarding refunds, voids, tax exempts, pricing, selling, and sold tags
• Records incoming Gift-in-Kind donations and referrals on three part receipts
• Maintains DR-14 Form File (consumer’s Certificate of Exemption). Must charge tax to anyone without a completed, current form with expiration date on file.
• Observes customers for possible shoplifting, changing price tags, or those who wear items from the store. Ensures that children are not left unattended to roam store or to play with toys
• Maintains well-groomed appearance (clothing, hygiene, etc.)
• Adheres to safety and attendance policy
• Attends company sponsored events to support the residents we serve
• Performs other duties as assigned

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

• Requires a High School diploma or GED, and 1 year of experience as a cashier in a retail sales environment
• Must be familiar with current styles, trends and prices, and know how to operate a cash register
• Must be able to communicate effectively in English. Bilingual in English, Spanish and/or Creole is highly desirable
• The Cashier must be able to work in a busy environment, under pressure with several customers in line, processing them quickly and accurately
• Must have the flexibility to work on holidays as necessary
